People in F1 move around a lot, and engineers in general are poorly paid. It's very easy to walk out the door with a USB drive full of data, although of course it's much more common to walk out the door with a head full of data.

Again, McLaren was not fined for Coughlan's possessing Ferrari data (July's FIA World Council mtg). They were reprimanded but no sanctions...i.e., slap on the wrist.

McLaren was fined $100M for the *use* of said per admissions of Alonso & de la Rosa (which, BTW, Ron Dennis relayed to FIA (Maxie) once Alonso told him what was going on in his team).

I refer to the actual World Council findings and $anctions, not who was actually guilty and when.
