For next year, you might think about running a turbo with a high compression engine. Can't run as much boost, but nice and torquey down low, where maybe it's more important in this "race"?

There's a pic on the 'net somewhere (A-pillar comparison)

At the end of their respective build lives, the $26K C900T actually cost more to produce than the $42K 9000T, too.

IMHO, the best C900 for the enduro job is the '91-'92 C900T 5spd: toughest (term is relative) trans, biggest brakes (can swap for the even bigger CS 9000 calipers), most horsepower, parallel A-arm suspension up front.

Next best would be the '88-'90 C900...

Quickest would be the '82.5-'84 H-engined turbo (quicker out of the hole but not so much top end and weak trans/brakes/axles

Best handling could be an early '81-'84 C900 base if you set it up right...

But I ramble about my SAABsession...
