I like the design especially the swooping beltline curve. It does remind me of the CLS, though, and the rear lights are very cool but cannot look at it without thinking of the CLS as well. But you know, it's got enough of the current Nissan identity around the hood and the grille that I think they can get away with it. After all, the car is supposed to attract a demographic who would like a Merc perhaps but cannot afford it. I would love to see a more original approach, but that may confuse the said demographic. I like the looks better than the current Maxima myself...

Over at FreshAlloy, someone who's seen the next Maxima body says it has CLS design cues and is about the size of a 7-Series. This concept fits that description pretty well, eh?

Also, the concept is filled with design elements consistent with the SE Asia Teana/Maxima. These include the side DLO, bangle-butt rear deck, tail lights, exhaust shapes, IP layout and door panels. The four seat layout is also consistent with the NA Maxima Elite Package and the front clip looks like an update of the current NA Maxima/Altima (but is definately not Infiniti like the G, EX, M, FX et al).

Nissan and Ghosen have already said that the top of the range next maxima will have the 3.0 diesel power plant, another clue that this concept previews the Teana/Maxima.

I'm betting this is a preview of the SE Asia Teana/Maxima. If Nissan merges that car with the NA Maxima (which make sense from an economy of scale standpoint and that the Teana is much more luxurious than the NA Maxima), we could also be looking at the next Maxima available here next summer.

Is there some sort of design contest to stretch the headlight assembly all the way back along the fender to the doors? And shouldn't a Q-ship have headroom for the back seat occupants?

Nissan should take a mulligan on this one and design something which will actually sell in the US.
