Now this is cool: the Honda CR-Z concept, which will debut at the Tokyo auto show. It's a re-do of the old long-gone—and long-missed CRX. Here's hoping this one sees the light of day, as I think it would be another winner for the Honda boys.Full story here at Jalopnik.

@Lawbot: True but so many cars look like the RX-8, either the nose, or the headlights or the front fenders.

@imoody: Call me CRa-Z, but this is somewhat reminiscent of Toyota's FT-HS (angular intakes at the wheels, raised hood, oversculpted rear). With a honkin' unnecessary Maserati-ish grille and the character lines charging uphill. They're both fine next-gen Japanese designs, along with Toyota IQ and Mazda's many fish gills.

Hey Jalopnik editors, you cut out part of the press release after "jaunty fin-shaped". Shows how few people read 'em ;-)

well, concept cars are just that.

as for torque concerns, it seems we gearheads may get a healthy dose of torque from that hybrid drivetrain.

i'll wait to see what shakes out, but i'm already pretty excited.

A bit more rear visibility (lower the back end a tad) and we are good. If they make a rwd version, this thing will sell like hotcakes, provided they don't f--- up the suspension and engine.

This, on the other hand, looks like a proper CRX successor.

I don't have a problem with the front or the back, but the two do not match at all. It's one of those concepts one hopes gets refined in production.

I'd love a new CRX as much as the next guy, but I question the hybrid drivetrain. I'm having huge difficulty picturing this car being as light and fun as the original with small engine + battery + motor - manual tranny.

Targeting a different audience? that would be unfortunate

The front is incredibly ugly, the back is incredibly ugly, but I do like the middle (except for the excessive crease in the middle of the door).

If ever there was a justification for massive blind spots, this is it. Love it, and just the concept of it. Hope it has enough power to justify that massive grille, but I'm not holding out for any torque...

@Paul Y: I think CR-Y was what we did in '93 when we got the "Ah-Sol" targa instead of a CR-X replacement.
