Does anyone remember that one that had the silhouette of a woman's naked hip, then some profile of a a car...perhaps a 246 GTS?, then a wine bottle or horse's mane...wow.

Here's my take on large auto posters...unless you own the car, it's a little strange to have a poster of one if you're over 30. A fine art photo, a Felix Petrol-esqe print, a vintage racing poster...perhaps all of the above. On second thought, unless you own something like the Volpi Special Alfa 8C, it might even be a little bit odd to have a poster of your own car hanging up.

For the record, my Countach poster was just a LP500S in black and tasteful lighting. No cleverness, no background. None was needed.

I'd probably still have that on my wall if i could find what i did with it...

Anyways, no question, the Muira's in. For starters, every Lambo built after the Countach is for wankers. Too tame, to easy to live with, and not exceptional enough, they're just giant penises on wheels, a way to flaunt your wallet. The Countach, I'd welcome it into the JFG, but it's on a similar batshit insane frequency as the LM002 - they'd make an interesting pair, but ultimately, I'd rather welcome in something a little more different. That leaves the Muira, which is gorgeous and dangerous, all that a supercar needs to be.

The Countach meme *IS* the poster, so just put one or two on the garage wall. Though I saw a pure white LP500S on a moonlit night and it was spine-tingling.

I've gazed at Murcielagos in a dealership and it's hard to choose it when the Gallardo is better looking.

The fact that it's a cartoon isn't a FAILING, it's the entire point. Sure, we've all seen it now and it's a bit of a cliche... but the fact that it has even become a cliche, despite being so unbelievably ridiculous, should be enough.

Plus: i did indeed have a poster of it on my wall in high school. And elementary school, too.

That said, of the three only the LP640 doesn't belong in the JFG. Sure it's the most powerful, but it isn't really special in any particular way. It's derived from a Countach-wannabe Murcielago and doesn't particularly out-perform its rivals. Sure, i'd have one myself... no doubt about that! But the JFG requires something a little bit more than just that. If there were only the Murcielago and not also the Miura and Countach would we even be talking about it? I don't think that we would, i think we'd be talking about Koenigseggs or something.

(Oh and one more thing: the 599 may look like a Corvette... but it looks like the hottest Corvette in the entire world.)

Sigh. The thing is...like an earlier poster said...the Miura is the sober, proper fantasy car, because it's rare and examples should be preserved lovingly for posterity. It's rare enough I'll never own one, I'm quite sure. Whereas the Countach? You never know. You might find one somewhere around the corner, still with encrusted blow on the dash, For Sale By Owner Cheap.

I'd think carefully before I committed myself to buy a Miura. Would I be a good parent? Could I offer it the home it deserved?

The Countach I'd snicker and giggle and meet shamefully like a hot, hot high end escort. If I could afford it and was single, I'd bribe it to stay the week. Maybe it would stick around.

The fantasy garage sounds way respectable, so it's gotta be the Miura. But out behind the JFG, there's a few parking spaces where the dogs hang out, and if I had the cash there'd be a Countach in one of them sneering at the trailerqueen pansies inside. Even if it didn't run.

I voted Miura because of the historical significance, and because it's so damn good looking., but I seriously considered voting the LP640 because it's just that awesome. But the Countach? Doesn't really compare to either one. The Countach is more of a Jalopnik meme than a serious contender for anything.

I wasn't impressed by the design (looked like a slightly more bizarre Gallardo in pictures) until I saw one on the streets of New York this summer. I've seen hot cars around, and usually they turn some heads, but this thing stopped people in their tracks when it drove by. In motion, among normal vehicles, it looks like an alien spaceship or something. It is nothing like a Gallardo, in fact it's nothing like any other car I've ever seen. Its proportions are indescribable - I've edited this sentence 10 times trying to come up with something to capture the impression it makes, and I can't. Maybe a Veyron does the same, but I've never seen one in the flesh.

Just food for thought, not really a pitch for it. But I'd still love to hear the real deal on the Diablo if anyone knows...

IIRC, Jonny's poster was I think part of that ultra cheese series that also featured a 288 GTO, bottle of wine, and a horse's mane with some caption like "Passion". ROTFLMAO.

How about the "Study Hard" wet t-shirt poster? CLASSIC. Of course, these days you can see Lindsay Lohan mostly naked on the itrawebs so the shock value of that back in the day is lost.

the Murci on the other hand, is evolutionary. This is an era of many well-built and extrememly well-designed 500 to 1001 bhp, AWD supercars. Heck, they don't even stop at 12 cylinders anymore, and many have multiple turbos. The Murci is outperformed in most aspects by its VW cousin, the Veyron. Even the intense styling is derivative of its ascendant Countach.

I think the Countach is getting any votes at all only for its styling and the fact that most Jalops are in their early-/mid-30s and were indeed teens when the Countach hit its stride. It is an awful car to drive. (I saw a young playboy 15 years ago in Cannes driving backwards, scissor door up, into an arch that ripped off the door. Funny stuff.)

Muira: Beautiful, Classic, V-12 and just oh so perfect. I fell in love with a navy blue one at the LA Concours this year, and I actually have a great shot of it next to red 25th Annivresary Countach. I'll post a link to the shot later this week.

Countach: Striking, Iconic, V-12, and dated. I had two posters with Countaches as a kid, one was just a Countach, the other was a 288 GTO (already in the garage,) a 959, and a Countach that said "Decisions, Decisions, Decisions." As I have said before the 288 GTO lights my candle. The Countach is the only JFG nominee or inductee that I have actually driven, and therefore can't vote in. While I didn't get to take it up to speed, the build quality was atrocious. This was a blow on blow 25th Anniversary edition, and the scissor door wouldn't stay put while I was working on it. But had it been black and gold, with the gold tint on the windows . . .

Murcielago LP640: Bold, Bad, V-12 when the Murci debuted it didn't so much for me, but the ultra sinister LP640 show car with the red window tint caught my eye and changed my perspective on the car. It didn't help that Jesse James' aqua-turquoise one was the only one I had seen in person at the time. While clearly a Countach, Diablo, evolution, its a sexy beast but the Reventon has already been revealed and we'd only be chasing the latest and greatest by adding it to the garage.

I'm torn on this one. The Countach was the fantasy car of my youth. It was the benchmark of uber (how would you put that in Italian?).

I'm young enough that I didn't even know what Miura was until last year. I didn't know until today that it was as significant a car as Lambo has ever made. Yeah, it's pretty, but it looks like every other 70s mid-engined super car. I recognize that in reality every other 70s super car looks like it...but unfortunately the Pantera got to my eyeballs first.

Had you just put the Miura up, I would've voted yes no problem, largely on historical significance.

But when I have to click the little radio button, all logic and reason aside, the Countach was (is?) my fantasy car.

The Countach, of course, would have to be an early LP400. A daydream - or maybe a vision - was what finally swayed me into my decision. My mind went back to that James Bond scene when he drives his Esprit out of the water on to the beach, amidst flabbergasted sunbathers. Then I imagined myself pulling up in the brand new LP400 and one-upping Mr. Bond. Not many cars could do that.

While a Murci makes me giddy when I see one on the road, and a Countach is the stuff of boyhood hoonage dreams, it is the Miura that really gets me all warm and gooey. Even more so if it's an SV or Jota

In its purified (early) form, the Countach was just so !@#$ing impossible... There's a reason why someone yanked the engine out of one, amde that a coffee table and hung the car on the wall in his house...

BUT, the Miura is THE first supercar. And it hit Ferarri squarely between the eyes. (just didn't KO, but did sting).
When I got really into cars in middle-school, I 'found' the Miura and well, that's it.

Anyway, while it is ridiculous and I certainly wouldn't kick one out of bed, the LP640 doesn't make the cut. First off it has a bad rep already as a death car. Didn't they kill like 5 pre production models in crazy wrecks?
Secondly, it is not really a new model style wise and I don't like that Lambo tried to present it as such. Third the gallardo is better looking for almost half the money. Since they currently make a car that I like better and this one is dangerous... despite it's hotness and relative supercar value, the Murci fails. Also I love the 599 and 575 so that doesn't hurt.

The Countach is an excellent fantasy car but it should remain just that, a fantasy. It looks better and certainly drives better in my mind than in reality. Perhaps the thing to do is have one mounted on the wall like that guy in LA. You could put one on the fantasy garage's wall and save the floor space for the real king Lambo, the Miura.

The Miura is widely considered the sexiest car of all time and and happens to be ground breaking, revolutionary, and fun to drive. Give me an SV in maroon with gold trim please. If it catches on fire we can tow it for repairs with the LM002.

So, would I have a LP640 spyder or a Miura, I'm going to go with the classic this time, but I hope there's a spot in the garage for the spyder at some point.

We've got a Veyron in the garage, so you've already got a bat (out of hell) car for when you're feeling the need for speed. Owning the first 'super car' with a mid-engine placement truly makes the Miura something special. The Jalopnik fantasy garage clearly isn't about having the 50 fastest, burliest cars available - its about having access to speed, handling, class, history, and most importantly, options. When you talk auto history, the Miura simply cannot be ignored, especially for its role in challenging Ferrari to be better.

The garage is not a King of the Hill battle - its about building a quiver. And I would love to take the Miura out on a Sunday, teaching my (not-yet-created) offspring in the passenger seat a thing or two about automotive history.
