I had one of these when I got into my "I want an old car" phase. It was sea foam green, flat head 6, POSITIVE ground, that's right boys and girls the ground was the position side of the battery! There was an actually oil line running to the back of the oil gauge (no sending units in those days). Folks, this type of car is the reason for 25mph speed limits, 25 was FAST in this car (just try to stop, go on you know it will happen eventually).

Really? That's kinda what I miss most about my old '61 Apache. (Except for those times when the linkage would get hung up and I'd have to pop the hood to get into 2nd gear.)
But back to the cut-glass shift knob on the Plymouth...
Wow. Just wow. It makes a pale shadow of those hotrods with their eight balls and silver skulls. I'm all for "brass age" flavor wherever I can get it.

anaxomander

Do it all without going overboard and anyone clapping eyes on it won't realize it isn't stock. They'll just think, "damn, that looks good." You won't (grossly) offend the purists, and garner ups from sleeperphile rodders.

Elhigh

I have a 51 Plymouth 2 door. That motor isn't sporty, but with the right exhaust leaks, it's silky smooth and almost dead quiet. I'd leave it in there, but build it up like a pulling tractor motor with several turbos and enough boost to blow the flat head an inch of the block. Just replace the head studs and you're good to go. It'd be a torque monster.

brucee10

As an actual Alamedian (living as an expatriate in Japan currently) I can verify that I've actually spotted some of these cars. There was nothing I liked better than taking a walk down a new street on a fine sunny day on that lovely little island and checking out the cars and houses (there are some amazing Victorian's there!) Anyway, I love seeing pictures and trying to guess exactly where they were taken. I only wish that I had something interesting parked in front of my house so I could have my 15 minutes of fame.

Keep up the good work, and if you include at least one shot with more visual context you will make my job of figuring out where it is a little easier.

Bakafish

As a Bay Area resident and semi-frequent visitor to the island of Alameda, I can assure readers that there are A LOT of unique, older cars there. Going through the tunnel/crossing the bridge into Alameda is like going through a time warp. It literally feels like small town America in the 70s/80s, in a good way.

Maxichamp
