I always loved - and now miss - my old Honda Civic because it was "adorable." The cutest little spud on the road. I'm a guy and incontrovertibly straight.

It didn't hurt that it went like stink and fit in parking spaces normally only big enough for bicycles.

My mom is straight and loves her Wrangler for its tractor-like exhaust note and commanding driving position.

i may stand corrected, but this spot (the the four or five variations, featuring dork-boy, skin-head, etc) were produced in Canada by their national agency, whose name i currently can't recall. The spots are more than a couple years old now, and this one in particular got shortlisted at a buch of shows.

As i said, i could be wrong but believe i'm right.

My friend has a Matrix, it was the top of the line model, the XRS, with the 2ZZ-GE engine. 1.8l with slight mods making about 200hp, stock was 180. It's the same engine as the Lotus Elise, but was never fitted with a supercharger.

@Buran: The Vibe IS the Matrix. It's the exact same chassis with different sheet metal making up the body and different interior styling. The Vibe looks vastly better, IMO, but like you said...

It's a Pontiac and not a Toyota, so therefore it's crap. Just like a few years back the Isuzu Rodeo was rebadged as a Honda something and the Honda consistently got better reviews all around (not counting the interior), just like the Matrix does. Quit being blinded by the brand and the old perception that US = absolute crap.

@AtomikB: Sort of. It's based on the Corolla, but I've never liked its look. It is, however, virtually the same as the Pontiac Vibe, which looks a fair bit better, but it's still a Pontiac -- I'd hope Toyota dealers can service it the way my ex-husband once took his Dodge Colt to a Mitsu dealer, which had no problem servicing it (some Colts were imported Mitsus) and charged less than the Dodge dealer would have. I'd rather deal with the local Toyota dealer, which treated me well when I still had the Corolla.

At least the Vibe looks a bit better!

Drive a 2007 VW GTI five-door now (love it) but I still think very highly of that Corolla. I literally drove it till it fell apart.

This commercial first appeared here in Canada a couple years back exactly as seen here. Then after a couple of weeks the scene changed to show a guy in the driver's seat. I think he had tons of piercings or tattoos, something to play on the father liking him without actually seeing him. Considering how same-sex marriage is legal in Canada it seemed very backwards for Toyota to alter the commercial to maintain the status quo. Plus, everyone loves lesbians, GOSH!

Hardly surprising considering how widely the Corolla is liked. It's a reliable, fairly-priced, nice-looking vehicle. I'm not lesbian, but I owned a Corolla once and I continue to recommend Corollas to friends who are looking for sedans (no five-door in the US -- huh?) in the price range the Corolla falls into.

Something that is so widely accepted is going to be highly regarded in at least a few subgroups of one kind or another.

I'm sure the original VW Type 1 was popular among gay men in the 60s, for example -- look at how popular it was among the population as a whole.
