@olddavid: For FWD the only drifting option is tray drifting, which I admire for it's insanity, and which is well covered on youtube.

I know it has a famous drifting heritage and that Japanese cartoon, I'm just surprized (pleasantly) to see it still running in top competititions. I think it did have a live rear axle, as opposed to IRS, I'm not sure if that's good or bad for drifting.

Hey Slushbox,
AE86 are actually quite popular for going Drifto. It's light weight, rear wheel drive, has a limited slip rear diff available and is 4 wheel IRS. My brother owned one years ago and breaking the rear end loose easy and quite easy to correct. I've never been into Toyota but I have to admit the old 86 was pretty fun.

as much as i want to come down and see this, i'm not willing to be outside when it's 120 out like it was last week. the D1 people are fucking idiots for having this thing in July. At least the Formula Drift events held here in the past were in Nov.

Why do this in July?In Vegas?Every time I've gone to one of these events its either godawful hot;or when it was here in Chicago in 06 it was freezing.Bad luck i guess.
