my parents have a millenia S. In case you forgot about that ride, it's got a 2.3L miller cycle V6 with a small blower, good for about 210 horses, and 200ish pounds.

It didn't quite have V-8 power like they advertised, but it sure sounds cool, and has great midrange punch.

Fitty7lax

@PlatformHoon: Oh, I know about the Twincharging, but VW is using an Otto-cycle engine there AFAIK. I'm saying they should go one further and use that setup on a Miller-cycle engine.

brandonvalentine

Toyota is using an Atkinson cycle engine in the Prius and Camry Hybrid. According to Wikipedia, a Miller cycle engine is essentially an Atkinson cycle engine with forced induction. So by calling it a "naturally aspirated Miller cycle engine", they're actually referring to an Atkinson cycle engine.

Mazda used a Miller cycle engine on the old Millenia. It was a V6 with the power and fuel economy of a V8... which makes you wonder why they didn't just put a V8 in there.

gotsmart

You gotta hand it to Mazda, they're willing to go out on just about every engine limb. I wouldn't be surprised if they've got people working on a quasiturbine for the new Eunos Cosmo right now.

I'd seriously love to see some Volkswagen engineers go after some crazy turbo'd/twincharged Miller-cycle action in really tiny displacements. If anyone can make it acceptably quick, they can.

brandonvalentine

You ain't seen nothin till you've seen a miller cycle two stroke V8 diesel with a turbo feeding a supercharger. mmmm, military hardware.

wohho

I think theres a reason Miller cycle didnt proliferate. Once that supercharger quits working, youve got a boat anchor. N/A will be undoubtedly slow.

54 mpg in something thats not a hybrid or diesel sounds great tho.

danio3834
