I'll be interested to see what comes of the Yen, presumably it can only be beaten down for so long.

As hinted their breakthrough releases are going to be fewer next year. We saw them pull back last month, and now they seem to be popping up on autonews' incentive lists more frequently.

No question they are on top of the world now. I'm sure they aren't stupid enough to take their success for granted (unlike many in the news).

acx

FT-HS in 2009, just in time for my lease to expire! Hmmmmmm, do ya think that'll boost sales a little more?.

1.64 Trillion Yen = 1,640 Billion Yen > 14 Billion Dollars
At least to my ears

Jalopnik should start stating all profits/loses in Yen for headlines - it makes the ups and downs sound so much more exciting!

Just think: "FoMoCo loses 1,523 Billion Yen!"

SwatLax

That's only a good quarter for an oil company. However, in terms of per-unit profitability $1,541 per car on all cars sold throughout the world doesn't seem bad at all (Ray, using your Michigan vs. Toyota system of relative measurement that means that Toyota made a 20 percent down payment on a house with every car they sold). That figure does ignore profits from side businesses like rice farming, geishas and Yakuza hits.

What's more impressive is that they moved 8.89 million units when the IS250 6MT is the only car they make worth owning.

no_slushbox

Impressive...their train just seems to keep picking up speed. And they did all this with sales down a little in Japan.

I'm curious if they'll get big gains again for 2007 given the relative lack of new vehicle introductions. The Tundra, Highlander, and Scion cars should show model year-over-year gains, but they probably won't put up numbers like the RAV4, Camry, FJ Cruiser, and Yaris IMO.

Of course, 08 will have the new Corolla/Matrix and hopefully some other things (new tC? AE86 replacement :) [I can dream, can't I]). So if things do slow this year, they'll pick back up I'm sure.

pjsammy
