WHEN are those guys gonna get some class with their engine-art? Can you see a plumber's nightmare like that under that clear hood on the Ferrari ?

I am also waiting for the day when they FINALLY quit screwing around and put them grille teeth from the '57 SS into that gaping hole in front.

That, and get rid of the Batman headlights, and put them big bugeyes of the racing Callaway in thar !

Hub

I'm betting that the Behr-labeled box is indeed an aftercooler, with the supercharger packed down into the engine valley to reduce overall height. The offset throttle body feeds the side of the blower, compressed air exits to the top, through the cooler and then back down into the cylinders.

HoubaHouba!

Oh snap! You're absolutely right. See kids, there's the diff between a shitty low res CRT and a nice bright HD plasma - witness marks AND an actuator.

What could these tricksters be up to? variable backpressure? variable flow? But why?

Another issue I'm having with these pictures is still that intake situation. The routing is just bizarre. Normally an aftercooler is after the supercharger. If that's what that hunk of metal is (and I can only assume it's an air to water cooler taking into account the hoses running to and from it), why is it on top? And look at the routing for the actual air intake. The electronic throttle body is offset to the drivers side. Very strange if it's a roots/screw type charger.

Ben Wojdyla

Ben/Etc: It definitely is a valve; the Z06 has that valve as well. It closes the butterfly at low RPMs to increase back pressure and torque (and decrease noise) then opens it at higher RPMs to decrease back pressure, increase horsepower and noise.

I'd assume that this is similar, if not exactly the same.

dculberson

Meh, I wouldn't call it a butterfly. If it was a butterlfy valve the the edge would be shiney, not covered in carbon, and it would be creating witness marks on the tube.

I'd call it part of the baffle system.

Ben Wojdyla

Intercooler/ Aftercooler. Its all semantics. Technically an intercooler is between stages of compression. An aftercooler is after stages of compression.

A few things I've noticed:

- Dry sump with battery in the rear like the Z
- Supercharged with intercoler integrated into the radiator
- 2 piece floating ceramic calipers 6 pot front/4 pot rear
- Larger master cylinder (have the same in my car, larger capacity, larger bore)
- seems to have larger vents after the front wheel well to help the engine compartment breathe better

The source at one of the big vette sites that basically leaked all the product codes for this and all the new models had one comment - whomever posted this will be fount dead in the Detroit River. I dont know if there is any doubt, but these are real.

sebrock
