I don't get it!

I am sure the specs are great, it's safer than a crashing a high-security volt, the engine is more envrinmentaly friendly and I am sure the endangered Pacific Northwest Tree is going to be happy.
But, What is up with this stupid new design direction?
everything's unproportional, the headlamps are from a skoda roomster, the rear is reamrkably similar to the old lexus IS. The worst thing is, all other cars are going to copy it now that the germans are doing it!

stradale33

I have been a Mercedes owner for many years now and having seen them evolved, they have been producing un-exciting cars since 1995. Seems like with the birth of the CLS, and now the new C Class, I am getting all excited again.

I have owned 190Es', W124s', W126 and W140. MB's after year 1995 did not interest me, due to the fact that they were too "electronically" designed and did not provide the sense of reliability. Based on this, I took the "leap of faith" and bought a Volvo S60.

I still keep the W124 (230CE), W126 and the W140 as collectors items and is actually looking forward to the new C Class to renew my faith in MB.

As for my S60, I love the smoothness in the way the turbo is delivered from the engine to the wheels. Just hope the new C Class can offer this type of smoothness as well, especially for the kompressor engines. They used to be pretty rough.

New C-class looks magnificant. I am sure it will drive beatiful as well. I currently own 2007 c-class. You have to drive to believe why Mercedes still leads all others and like no other.
I was into BMW for a long time. Test drove several of them including 2007 330i coupe. It is nice and good performer but not complete in my opinion. You give up a lot for sporty drive.
Two of my friends bought BMW 328xi's and still comparing and admiring my car. They are still trying to justfy the money they paid.
MB is very well balanced between performance, support, comfort and maximized grace and luxury.
However, a lot of people are intimitated by its precence and afraid to purchase. For them there is always BMW's, Audi's, Infiniti's and etc.
Most BMW owners brags about performance and when Infiti beats BMW performance then they brag about something else. I am not saying infiniti is better but it is all about balance of what you want. I don'think one is better than other. They are completely different combination of priorities. In that sence, MB is not comparable to the categories of BMW, Audi, Infinit or Lexus. I could not say it better "Like no other". I have a reason to be bias. Nothing personal to other car experts.
Let's see. I have owned a 3 series and 5 series BMW, several Lexus cars and trucks and several MB's including a C class. I adore the C class...handling, brakes, comfort and , oh, God forbid, "fun!". Oh well, MB, please making cars for those of us who know cars, and not just those that act like snobs.

sbadsaint

Interesting comments from the Eurotrash. As an owner of 2003 C32 I must state that my car is the most balanced automobile I have ever driven. 4 doors, room for the 3 kids and goes like a scalded cat when asked to perform. It's faster than an M3 above 40 mph without the racer-boy stiff suspension. I already have my deposit on a C63 and can't wait. When it comes, I think BMW, Lexus, Infinity and maybe ferrari won't have to show up.

reallife

I don't think it's bad looking at all, although the headlights make it look kinda dated.

My favorites are still the late 90's ones with the oval headlights that all the streetrodders used. That looked like a Mercedes.

If this one came with a turbo diesel engine and a 6 speed manual tranny, I'd think it was sweet. Either way, I'm not buing one.

squablow

Ahhh, a reference to the Audi Fox. I loved that little car.

First car I totalled. Hit a curb so hard that the radio went from one end of the dial to the other. (The days of mechanical station selection.)

Ours was white with the blue leatherette interior.

At around the same time a neighbor had a Cimarron, which was the ne plus ultra of luxo-brand econocrap.

Which brings us back to the C-class pictured.

Mercedes has succeeded in one regard. In the pictures at least, it doesn't look like a toy derivative of a real M-B sedan. It looks like a real, albeit small, car.

Torque

I second whomever said it looks nice but I'd probably never buy one.

The C-class (190 2.3-16, C36 and C43 excluded) has always felt like a downscaled MB as opposed to the 3 series and even the A4 (they made the POS Fox, for God's sake).

To their credit, MB looks to be trying to develop a central design theme...which I would say has all evolved from the CLS.

Al Navarro

I was thinking the other day, what is the ideal client car? If I was choosing a car it would be rear wheel drive and have a manual. While I'm at it I would give it only two doors, make it a convertible, and for the hell of it throw the engine in the back.

What I'm left with is my MR2 Spyder, but what I'm not left with is a very good client car. Selling crap to clients is the new American profession, so America needs a good client car. This isn't the ideal family car, and it isn't the ideal performance car, so is it the ideal client car?

This car has a 108in wheelbase, but for the same money or less I can get an 112in wheelbase G35, or a 120in wheelbase 300C. On the issue of back seat passengers Mercedes loses by a wide margin. Also, the G35 and 300C might not be über impressive, but neither is the compact German car that the client just bought his kid.

By the way, where is the pneumatic/camless valve system that this car was supposed to have?
Gosh, it's another silver Mercedes sedan. M-B has an uncanny ability to produce high-performing, luxurious, not-awful looking cars that do not excite me in the least. For instance, I'm much more enthused about a used turbocharged Saab convertible than this thing, simply because the Saab has a hint of personality.

Bumblebee

copy Chrysler's Sebring or did
Chrysler copy Merecedes C-class?
I always forget...is the C-Class the cheapest one that is driven by people that can only afford to lease them and care little to nothing about performance, but only get them so they can say they drive a Mercedes? Or, am I getting it confused with the Jaguar X-Type?

It looks nice, though.

ownersite

Now I thought the profile reeks of the 3-Series.
It's hard to believe designers STILL need to copy off other's and just and "their" enhancments.

SLR_BlowerMania

Yuck.

The front end has angles in all the wrong places in a wrong-headed attempt to out-Bangle the 3-series. The profile reeks of Passat, especially at the rear. The rear is the least objectionable angle, but that doesn't make up for the rest of it.

But it'll sell. That huge tri-star in the grille will see to that.

Brian E
