I had a 1971 model when I was a teen ... yes, I plunked down $10,000 for a used one in 1989. I spent about $4,000 bucks on it, and made it a show piece.

It was foolishly fast (my folks let me buy it, because they did not know how fast!) and would "bark" a second like no other car ive owned since.

I sold the car years later for $12,000, boy do I wish I still had it ....

My first car was a one-owner 1968 280S that my dad, who does not have a driver's license, bought for me from one of his buddies in 1983. Talk about a bad-ass car to take to college.
The only time during that period I was ever tempted to trade it in was when I saw a '69 6.3 at the local Honda dealer but even then I knew that I was asking for trouble on my limited budget so I let it go (after making a few visits to the dealer to gaze longingly at it).
Between the air-suspension and the vacuum-assist power windows and sunroof, there are a lot of rubber parts that don't age well.
But if I ever win the lottery.........

Jesus, how do you guys know about the freakin' Skyhooks? The 6.3 was my dream car when I was young. When all my mates liked Porsches, Lambos and Ferraris, I was more of a Q-ship kid (and still am)

In Chicago of the 1970s/80s, those that really had money, or wanted to pretend they did, imported their Mercs directly from Germany. With speedometer in KPH of course.
