The Vauxhall VX220 is one of the forbidden fruits of the GM product portfolio we covet ferociously, and this heavily modified, 4.2-liter supercharged V8-equipped version dubbed the Caral V8XS makes it all the more painful. At 450 HP, the Jaguar-sourced motor certainly would light a fire under the slinky two-seater, but the powertrain isn't the only place upgrades happen. The entire interior gets restyled with some darn nice-looking leather and a new gauge cluster with built-in lap timer. When was the last time you saw a Vauxhall VX220 in North America? ß®@ƒƒ managed to find one in California, Newport Beach to be exact (we're starting and ending the Down On The California Street DOTS-O-Rama Sunday in Orange County). Its project name is "Bastard," which coincidentally, was Lemmy Kilmister's post-post Rockin' Vicars band's original moniker. Better known as Mot rhead, the group's classic "Ace of Spades" contributed the soundtrack to the ridiculously awesome "Clarkson in an Exige vs. Apache" segment on Top Gear a couple of years back, thus bringing the Elise-VX220/Speedster-Lemmy connection full circle.
