Disappointed that the all new Aston Martin hypercar has sold out already? Bugatti still has plenty of 1,500 horsepower Chirons left. Of course, you probably want to know if it is actually faster than the Veyron, or maybe you are holding out for the Super Sport Grand Vitesse Pur Sang edition. Either way, the car has hardly sold out.

According to GT Spirit, which spoke to Bugatti’s CEO Wolfgang Durheimer, the Chiron has been technically “on sale” for about nine months and has only found 220 customers out of the allotted 500 units. Only one anonymous customer has taken delivery and was even given a unique one-off Bugatti Gran Turismo Concept.

By comparison, Aston Martin’s upcoming hypercar sold out instantly, and your average LaFerrari and Ford GT is gone in a hot minute. Demand for the Chiron is comparatively quite weak.

Why, you ask? Aside from the fact that the Chiron is basically a better looking and more powerful Veyron, the real reason people but this car is for bragging rights. We all know the Veyron holds the title of the fastest production car in the world when an unrestricted Veyron Super Sport achieved a top speed of 265.7 mph. As of now the top speed number floating around for the Chiron is 261 MPH, which you will note is less than 265.7 mph.

While very few customers will ever get the opportunity to attain that level of velocity, they very wealthy purchase this car because it has the capability to be the fastest in the world. Unlike limited edition supercars like the Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1, and Porsche 918 that brought a new level of technology integration into the realm of ultra-exotic sports cars, you could argue that Bugatti has only one trick: top speed.

Without that top speed figure, the Chiron is just another really expensive and fast car. It’s also possible that the Chiron is just a weak sequel, the 22 Jump Street of hypercars, rather than something wildly new and imaginative.

Still, Bugatti’s CEO seems to think the main issue is that customers haven’t test driven it yet.

Seems legit. Hey Bugatti, I’m totally in the market for this thing, and the only thing holding me back is a stint behind the wheel. Hook a brother up, okay?
