Raymond Loewy was the industrial designer Studebaker employed to create their sporty Avanti model. At the time it was the last ditch effort of a failing company to stay relevant in an automotive market that had already passed them by. More »

In 1966 if you wanted all the space and luxury of a full size Ford with plenty of muscle, an R code Galaxie 500 was the car for you. Although a Galaxie with a 425 horsepower 427 V8 is pretty appealing 45 years later, it wasn't a very popular combination when new. More »

Considering vintage Cadillacs are rarely the first choice for a hot rod platform, it's hard to believe this is the second old Caddy sedan we've seen with a Cummins diesel where it's factory V8 once was. The star of this weekend's Barrett-Jackson auction in Las Vegas was this 1964 Ford Fairlane K-code which sold for an amazing $700,000 with all proceeds going to charity. This very red Fairlane was originally constructed by Rousch Industries as a promotional vehicle for the auction company. Last night it was auctioned with all proceeds going to benefit the Armed Forces Foundation. More »

As part of their 100 year celebration Chevrolet set up a weird bracket style voting system in an attempt to pick the best car the company ever produced. By 1974 the cars being sold were a lot different than the fire breathing "Super Cars" being sold in the late 60s. As is evidenced by this vintage road test, although Car and Track did it's best to change with the times, it was never quite the same. This is fairly apparent throughout this 1974 Oldsmobile Omega S road test. As host Bud Lindemann points out, the S in the Omega's name signifies sport options and a higher price tag. More »

79 years ago this past week, Henry Ford unveiled the flathead V8 in a move that would change automotive history. The hype and legend of the 65 horsepower engine keeps the '32 Ford one of the most popular vintage hot rod platforms almost 8 decades later. Keeping in mind the fact a great engine can make an ordinary car a legend, this week's Question of the Weekend asks what is your favorite production car engine? More »

We aren't sure exactly what motivated someone to start building a hot rod around a bathtub, but the results are certainly interesting. This unfinished project is built on an unknown frame and features a low cubic inch small block Chevy V8 (283 or 305), an automatic transmission, some shiny new headers and you guessed it, a bathtub. More »

For Tony Hawk's visit to the Sydney Telstra 500 supercar race in Australia next month, organizers built him a "skateboard" with a 630-hp V8. Keen on self-preservation, Hawk has expressed some doubts about putting his shrimp on the barbie: More »

Before Porsche builds a handful of its 918 Spyder plug-in hybrids, it has to finish the production bodywork, which it teased today as part of an expansion of its research labs, which cost the equivalent of 250 Porsche 918 Spyders. More »
