Remember when the Tomahawk rolled on stage beneath leather-clad Wolfgang Bernhard's posterior? Remember how we all thought Dodge must have had an aneurysm, and the "bitchin'" center of the brain was now running the show? Well, in light of what we have here, Dodge's Viper-powered bike/car mashup looks more like a malaise-era station wagon. It's "Jagged Edge," a one-off motorcycle powered by a twin-turbocharged, 5.3 liter, V12 Jag engine with a single cog driving the rear wheel. Fancy-pants suspension? Nope, it has the front end from a Kawasaki GPZ1100 and a hard tail rear (that means none). Highly engineered thoroughly tested transmission? Ha! It was equipped with a VW-sourced, 2.4-liter inline-six turbodiesel good for 107 hp and clouds of black smoke. Considering the engine was originally intended as a generator, its reliability is unquestionable. However, it was not a twin-turbocharged, 500+ horsepower, 5.7-liter Corvette engine, as is the powerplant in this particular specimen. Having had college-years experience with our own GL, we're confident saying no piece of the original suspension is still in place. Moreover, we'll add that barring absurd chassis reinforcement, this Vette-powered box will likely twist itself apart in 10,000 miles. What's a normally aspirated 4.2-liter direct-injected 420 horsepower V8 with an 8,250 rpm redline gotta do to get a little respect around here? For the ninth year in a row Engine Technology International Magazine has presented their International Engine of the Year Award. In 2005 BMW took down 6 wins, including the (possibly) coveted International Engine of the Year. In 2006, the Bavarians only managed to win 5 awards (Volkswagen's 1.4-liter twin charger jumped up and bit their ankles in the (maybe) hotly contested 1-liter to 1.4-liter category), but once again, the M5's 5-liter V10 took top honors. Again. This year? Once again BMW took down 6 of the 11 awards, but best engine honors did not go to their mighty V10. Instead, the twin-turbo straight-6 from the 335i took top honors. Remember, even though BMW says the thing only makes 300 horses, that mill actually kicks out 350 hp. Los Jalopers? We'd still rather have the 4.2 out of the RS4. And speaking of Dutch masters, Vincent and his gang of millionjars at Autoblog.nl bring us this batshite-mad BMW twin-turbo M5. It's the product of Westlake, California's Currency Motorcars. It's not just some run-of-the-mill tweaker. The super-high-end work includes serious powertrain alterations to unlock upward of 800 horsepower from the V10. The intercooler is a custom job, and the gestalt adds up to a top speed, according to Currency, of 240 mph. As if that figure were not badshite mad enough, it's also gotten $100,000 in interior upgrades - mainly hand-stitched aniline dyed Florida Crocodile, leather and suede. One of our greatest regrets in life was the night when the busty, pro-S&M temptress with the 300ZX Twin Turbo invited us back to her hotel room saying, "I've got a 1.5L of Maker's Mark" and we said no. And while we totally blew it with the world's greatest woman, it's nice to know British Nissan engineers have built a car that would have pleased her. By slapping a centrifugal supercharger onto the already great VQ engine, power climbs from 300 hp to 382 hp, 0-100mph times plummet by 2.5 seconds and the 350Z GT-S looks hoontastic, too.
