Automotive News is speculating that Ford's highly anticipated EcoBoost twin-turbocharged, direct-injected V6 will cost about $700 over the standard powerplant when it's released as an option for the Lincoln MKS and Ford Flex next year. While Ford didn't release output numbers or mileage expectations for the initial applications, they are saying that pickup versions of the EcoBoost V6 will produce "significantly more" than 340 HP and 340 lb-ft of torque while returning 20% better mileage than an equivalent V8. Just don't call it a Twinforce. Yesterday we mentioned all the speculation regarding the 2010 Ford Taurus SHO and a focus group that SHO owners participated in, at the behest of Ford engineers and planners. Using the leaked photos of what everyone suspects is the 2010 Ford Taurus, the excitable folks over at BringBackTheSHO.com put their steady hands to the task of giving us a peek at what they hope will be the next Taurus SHO. More »

Looks like BMW isn't the only new twin-turbo sheriff in town. Back during the Detroit Show we hipped you to the knowledge that FoMoCo was readying a "twin-force" V6 good for over 400 hp that would be showing up in a Lincoln flagship. Not good enough for Mulally, apparently. Turns out that Dearborn is actually preparing twin-turbo 4 and 8-cylinder engines as well. Which is fantastic news. For their part, Ford is saying that this new family of forced induction mills will be easy on our pocketbooks, explaining that "twin-force will offer diesel-like fuel economy." And that's good, we like that. But they are leaving out the part about how twin-turbo V8 Mustangs (and maybe the Interceptor...) will be better than 10 Super Bowls. Direct injection and cylinder deactivation will also be part of the mix, natch. – Jonny Lieberman More »

FoMoCo forums are all atwitter with people claiming to have the inside skinny on the possibility of a Super High Performance version of the Ford's newly renamed Taurus. So what have we heard thrown over the back fence from Dearborn? Well, we're getting tios that a high-performance model of the Taurus is undergoing testing in Dearborn. We've also heard, and I dunno how much stock I'll put in this one, but it is from one of our reliable sources, that
"mills with both TwinForce and Yamaha are being tested...the only thing I'm worried about is that it may not reach production...more of a feasibility test, but we shall see."
But on top of our own sources, Blue II over on BlueOvalForums, a member who's called almost all of FoMoCo's most recent bold moves is now claiming:
"Not sure if this is Mulally news but Taurus will get the Twin Force engine. Not sure if it will be called SHO though."
The Twin Force, as everyone remembers, is the new 3.5-liter V6 twin-turbo direct injection engine debuting in the Lincoln MKR concept. The Twin Force delivers 415 horsepower and 400 foot-pounds of torque - comparable to and better than some V8's. We don't know how much, if any, of this is true, but as a reminder of what could be, we've reprinted the 2009 SHO Concept pictures from BringBackTheSHO below. – Ray Wert <a href="http://jalopnik.com/246287/sho-me-the-twin-force-baby-rumors-of-performance-taurus-tease-the-interwebs" title="Click here to read more about SHO Me The Twin Force, Baby! Just look at that handsome lump of bulging, muscular Americana (on the right). You know the story by now. The Interceptor is a four-door Mustang (no matter what Ford says and then denies). Which means it's a rear wheel drive sedan powered by a torquey V8. We like this fact so much that us bothering to explain why is a waste of our collective breath. We also enjoy the aggressive, battering ram design, even though the big Ford 4-door looks a little too much like last year's Super Chief Mega-Truck. Looks? Why are we talking about looks? FoMoCo — can you drop the TwinForce Turbo in this sucker and paint it black?
