This VW Is The Fastest Looking Slow Car Ever

Brazil has always been an alternate reality for VWs, with their long-closed borders forcing all kinds of interesting mutations and developments of the old air-cooled VW line. Without foreign sports cars to import, VW Brasil made their own: the SP2. Parked, it was the fastest car you've ever seen. Driven, well, not so much.

The SP2 was built on the Type III platform, and used the same flat-four, 1700cc "pancake" engine. Which made all of 75HP. Which gave the SP2 the Portuguese nickname "Sem Potência," which in English means "without power."

But who cares? Going slow in this thing is a public service, so all the people can enjoy how 70s-sexy this thing is. These great pictures are from VW's vintage enthusiast site, and make for some lovely car porn.

Enjoy.
