This video of a Mini Cooper evading a police spike strip in Brisbane just started making the rounds on the Internet and it looks every bit like The Italian Job came to Brisbane. It turns out the driver never really made a successful escape.

Though this video was uploaded at the end of last month, the chase took place in November 2012, reports 9 News.

It was called the "Gold Coast Crime Spree," but all that happened was two young men (22 and 23 years old) stole the green Mini, then robbed a liquor store, punching the store's 23-year-old clerk in the process.

Police set a helicopter on the alleged thieves, eventually got them into a cul-de-sac, and that's when the Mini evaded the cops' spike strip. The thieves then actually crashed the Mini into a fence immediately thereafter. The cops had to fight the thieves and sicced their dog on them, but the young men were quickly apprehended. One was charged with burglary, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a vehicle, failure to stop a motor vehicle and obstructing police. The other was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

It's a cute video, but a perfect escape it was not.
