It's a badge with a wee bit o' history and according to Todd, it will appear on the car they'll be showing at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show in January and on the production version that will go on sale later next year as a 2009 model. Much like the facts provided by the boys at Popular Mechanics, Lassa's also telling us they'll still be using the supercharged version of the new 6.2-liter V8 — the same used in the 2008 Corvette that we've already seen shots of. Lassa's also got the scoop that the price will be "much higher than the 505-horsepower Z06" which Chevy will still continue to build post-launch of the "ZR1." Full gallery of production mule shots of whatever the new Corvette will be called below. [via MotorTrend Blog]

<![CDATA[Blue Devil Caddy: A 600-hp Cadillac CTS-V?]]>

Hmm. Motor Trend is divining some automotive tea leaves, or smoking them. In the mag's latest tree scrape, they say a 600+ horsepower Cadillac CTS-V is on the way. Lock up your vice presidents of accounting, this one could be a psycho killer. It'll piggy-back, engine wise, on the upcoming super Corvette, whose blown V8 has been the subject of wide speculation. MT's calling for a supercharged version of the Z06's 7.0-liter LS7 producing 700 horses. That goes against the predictions of others, who've said Chevy will use GM's 6.2-liter, lest all that force-feeding of air rend the LS7 into an automotive Caligula. Whatever block it uses, the Caddy's kit would be detuned somewhat. This beast of a CTS, it's said, will appear in 2009, sporting flared fenders, Brembo brakes, an aero kit and tighter steering. Bob Lutz has already said the next CTS-V would "suck the doors off a [BMW] M5." Something like this could suck the bolts out of a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier. This should happen, even if it doesn't.

<![CDATA[Spy Photos: Corvette Z07 (Or Whatever!) Caught Testing Alongside Ferrari 599]]> Corvette_Z07_Spy_Photo.jpgEd Hellwig over at the line that's always straight — one of the many sites that when combined together form the auto industry super-site that is Edmunds — looks to have snagged some pics taken by KGP of what appears to be a Corvette SS (Z07, Blue Devil, etc) powertrain mule on a test track in Europe. The Z07 (or whatever) seems to be partaking of some side-by-side comparison track time with a Ferrari 599. The always straightly-lined Edmunds site postulates it may have something to do with "reworking" the Delphi magnetically adjustable shock absorber system used by both vehicles. We happen to think it's "Maximum" Bob Lutz deciding to take his new up-powered super-toy into some super-screaming pissing matches with what he believes will be the competition. Well, probably more likely the shock absorber thing, but a man can dream, can't he? Anyone else notice the similarities between the vette in the spy shot above, and a certain powertrain mule you'll remember from a while back? In case your memory needs a jog, we've re-included the picture gallery below.

<![CDATA[Lutz Says Corvette SS Project Safe, in Final Tuning Stage]]>

Apparently GM's "pause button" on gas-swilling, rear-drive pavement ionizers doesn't include the "Blue Devil" Corvette SS (or whatever). Vice-grip chair, Bob Lutz says that project was too late to stop. As you'll recall, an EPA proposal to increase CAFE fuel economy requirements, Lutz said earlier this week, caused GM to press the big, red stop button on its plans for cars to be built on its new global rear-drive platform. Those would be the Pontiac G8, next-gen Chevy Impala and ultra-luxe Cadillac. Lutz had said the new Camaro, which is built on the same platform, was also too late to stop. As far as the new 'Vette's engine is concerned, Lutz would only say it will be "comfortably in excess of 600 ." That's horsepower. What a little devil.

<![CDATA[Spy Photos: Another Blue Devil, Corvette SS, Z07, Whatever Spotting]]>

The allegedly-LS9-powered 'Vette has been spotted yet again on the mean streets of the town that's close to Wert's suburb, shot by a man with a cam who saw the camo'd up C6 and a bunch of guys typing on laptops in a manufacturer-plated Suburban. Sadly, dude was too intimidated to shoot more because he didn't want to get busted. Note to dude, if you happen to be reading this: they cannot bust you for taking photographs of cars they're driving around on public roads. Just carry a Glock in case they decide to get rough. They're engineers, not the Geheime Staatspolizei. Shoot all you want, they'll make more Corvettes.

<![CDATA[Stingray! Motor Trend on the "Blue Devil" Corvette]]>

Motor Trend's the latest buff book to chime in on Chevrolet's upcoming Viper-beater Corvette. (You'll recall that car was dubbed "Blue Devil" for an early prototype spied on the N rburgring, which happened to be blue.) According to the magazine, the new super 'Vette will indeed have a supercharged version of the 7.0-liter LS7 V8, but will be dubbed Stingray (one word), and according to their illustration, will get Super Sport badging. A liberal use of carbon fiber will reportedly bring weight down to 2900 lbs — 232 lbs less than the Z06. MT says we'll see the launch in mid-2007.

<![CDATA[Automobile on the 650 hp Corvette]]>

Jean Jennings and her boys at Automobile report that the speculated-upon "Super 'Vette" (nee Blue Devil) will use a variation of the Z06's 7.0-liter LS7. The new model may be called the Z07 and will get its extra gumption by way of a bolt-on supercharger. As reported back when spy folks first started spotting the devilish Viper-challenger on various test tracks, the reportedly $100,000 heartland scorcher will be fitted with weight-saving carbon-fiber body panels and an outsized hood scoop large enough to feed that oxygen-hungry mill. We'll likely see it by 2008.
