1967 Ford Galaxie 500XL

Here's a car I've seen in my neighborhood a few times but never had a chance to photograph until now. This super-clean big-block '67 Galaxie belongs to WhatWouldJesseDo's friend, Rocky, who often visits Alameda from his place on the other side of the San Francisco Bay. When I spotted the big Ford on Jesse's block, I called him up and requested that he drag Rocky outside with the keys, so I could get some interior shots.

Chicago Auto Show: International MaxxPro

International didn't just bring it's super shredder semi, the International LoneStar to the show. They also brought the US Military's latest wheeled transport, the International MaxxPro. The imposing vehicle is basically a purpose-built mobile bomb shelter, capable of taking a hit from any direction, as well as fording bodies of water as deep as 36 inches, just for the hell of it. When we opened the door—or more precisely, tried to open the door—we had to abandon all all our stuff and put our weight behind the effort. The thick armor plated doors were almost as heavy as the ones on an old Mark VIII. While the Humvee is impressive in its general-purpose skills, this thing is just a plain beast. We want a test drive of the take home version. Any vehicle with gun portals gets an "A" in our book.

Ford Extending E85 Corn Goodness To E-Series, Navigator and Expedition

More exciting action from the D.C Auto Show as Ford snuck some E85 news into the 2009 Ford Escape press release. The company's E-Series vans, Navigator and Expedition will be able to run on E85 fuel this year, which is good news for the small percentage of the people reading this that have access to the approximately 0.01% of gas stations in the United States that actually offer Ethanol and are suddenly in the market for a bold-faced commercial van. Excuse us if we're not that excited. We really wanted them to announce they were building an E-Series van that runs on straight vegetable oil. Press release below the jump. More »

Detroit Auto Show: 2009 Ford F-150 Official Pics and Details

The 2009 Ford F-150 has arrived and, for potential buyers, there are two major stories here other than the new frame and exterior: more standard/available features and more model variations. Now standard is the AdvanceTrack with Roll Stability Control (RSC), Trailer Sway Control, the new Tailgate w/ box side steps and the new "Easy Fuel" capless fuel-filler system that uses a a sensor to automatically seal shut when the nozzle is removed. Available on all F-150's is the SYNC system (with all goodies), new 700-watt Sony sound system, integrated trailer brake controller (segment first on light-duty pickups) and rearview camera assist. There are going to be a total of 35variations of the new F-150 (XL, STX, FX4, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch), including the new Platinum series, which adds extra detailing and chrome on the outside and features such as ash wood accents, 10-way adjustable leather captain's chairs and standard 20-inch polished aluminum wheels. (UPDATE: More photos of the new Ford F-150 in the gallery below):

Spy Photos: 2007 Chevrolet Equinox SS

Not today...rather this is tomorrow's Chevy truck...err...SUV. Either way, the newest edition to Chevy's line-up of mid-size SUV's is built on the Theta platform — like it's brother/sister cars, the Pontiac Torrent and the Suzuki XL-7. The Equinox SS (you can tell by the double pipes in back) seems to have the same basic front fascia, but the real changes'll be under the hood — specifically in the form of a 3.9L V6 with a 6-speed tranny. Our friendly neighbors over at How Bourgeois snagged this shot and you should feel free to peruse the rest of the pics over on their site. More »

New York Wrap Up: Suzuki XL7

Suzuki's new XL7 (now with 100% less hyphen) debuted at the New York Show, indicating the company may have a post-GM future as a producer of mid-market crossover SUVs. The XL7 (three rows of seats, natch) marks a move further upmarket for Suz; it gets the 250hp, 3.6-liter premium DOHC V6 of its former benefactor — which also shows up in the Cadillac CTS, Buick Rendezvous and will power the Saturn Aura — as well as features like stability and traction control and accident-avoidance doodads. It'll cost in the $23,000 to $29,000 range when it comes out in late 2006. More »

New Suzuki Models to Show up in New York

Suzuki, undaunted by GM's selloff of its ownership stake in the company, is continuing in its plan for world domination with a couple of introductions at the New York auto show next month. We hear you snickering, and Suzuki does too, but it doesn't care. The company is planning to debut its new XL7 SUV as well as its new SX4, er, small four wheeler (sorry, "compact sport X-over") at the show. The SX4 is just the latest in a genre of small four-wheelers created by Subaru in the mid-'70s, but abandoned of late. Welcome it back — there's more to come. More »
