    This should teach everyone a lesson, never ever ship anything you care about even the slightest by UPS. Remember the old Samsonite ads with the gorilla throwing a suitcase around his cage? If your package can't survive that sort of handling then UPS isn't your shipping choice. I've had better luck with FedEx ground but even there I wouldn't ship something this fragile that way, I'd go for some sort of hand-carried courier or better yet just pick it up myself even if it does mean a long drive.

    @solracer: Oh and also make sure that the box you use is appropriate for what you are shipping, in this case the box is made up of more than one box, never a good idea. I think in this case a wooden box would have made much more sense.

    Jut what I was thinking, the shipper should have built a wooden shipping crate and anchored the car to it. Use some styrofoam pieces to wedge the car into the crate and the thing would not have budged unless it was dropped from an airplane.

    When I saw this, I figured the idiot packing it had no idea it was made of plaster and not plastic or metal.


    I wonder if the Plaster Casters are still around? Those ladies could get anything sorted out.

    I bought a chainsaw from a Canadian. He shipped it in the original box, labelled "Expensive Chainsaw Inside". It checked into the shipping depot in Toronto, but never checked out. I called said establishment, mentioned that not only did they have thieves working there, but somehow an employee was able to walk out of their place with a giant chainsaw, unnoticed. The guy I talked to was surprised that I was surprised.


    Shippers - if you get it, it's a miracle...

    @JDisnidiet: At least you knew when your package didn't show up it had been stolen. A few years back I bought a fairly nice 35mm camera off ebay for a gift. My package shows up all nice and packed and taped. I open the box and there is the camera box, but the camera box is empty! Someone at UPS decided to help themselves and then repackage the empty box! The seller handled it under their shipping insurance.


    When shipping guns (yes, you can do this if it is to or from a register dealer) UPS demands you use overnight shipping so the package won't be around their employees and they won't have as much chance to steal it.

    This is why people are wary of buying cars and getting them shipped. Honestly, you'd think that they would at least try to be professional and put a bit of effort into it. Instead they do a halfassed job resulting in rare cars or prototypes being damaged.

    @Ambiguously Fuzzy Plushroom: They all suck. DHL wasn't too bad, but good luck getting them to deliver anything domestic now days.


    At one point or another I've had all the majors destroy something I ordered.

    @Ambiguously Fuzzy Plushroom: My experience with UPS hasn't been that bad. Except for the time they shipped us the new Opel Kadett exhaust system bent into a U, they've been pretty good for me.

    @Ambiguously Fuzzy Plushroom: I did summer work for FedEx. I've shipped w/ UPS and FedEx. Both screw their customers, if you don't watch out. If you're going to ship ANYTHING, be sure that (if it's small) it can be dropped from at least waist-height; if it's larger, be sure that it can be flipped end-over-end, rolled, dragged, and/or shoved out the back of a truck.


    All they care about is volume (speed). Whenever you write "fragile" on a box, it is laughed at.
