    Yeah, /suuuure/. I bet the Engineers' next great lifesaving simulation will be "If we strapped missile launchers to the roof rack, and fired them ... say ... at each other ... this would emulate the effects of a heavy hailstorm ... please?"

    @Brian O'Toole: In this case the engineer is probably thinking, we'll use this for about a year, then it will need to be scrapped out, my boss will just let me take the cannon parts home. "I will RULE at the 2011 Pumpkin Chunkin contests!"

    NEWS FLASH: GM suspension engineers have figured out how to replicate the effects of the car being rear-ended and sliding up the hood of a car by attaching a trebuchet to the bottom of an Aveo mule. Upon testing, the device did not quite work as planned, and the Aveo was launched into Canada.

    You just know the engineers' original idea for this was to mount a 105mm howitzer sideways in the back of a F-350. This is just the politically correct version.


    At least, as an engineer myself, that would be my first thought if someone said "we need a recoil impulse to know the back end of a car around"

    @elwood: The old M102 is only about 3000lbs [en.wikipedia.org] including the wheels and trailer/mounting. You could easily loose 1000lbs of that (wheels, most of the trailer, elevation mech, a few feet of barrel, etc.) The F-350 is still a 1-ton truck right?
