Over 1,000 Vintage Mercedes-Benzes Await The Cruel Jaws Of The Crusher In Kentucky

Schm writes in to inform us of a wrecking yard in Falmouth, Kentucky, that appears to be in weeks away from sending between 800 and 1,000 older Mercedes-Benzes to The Crusher. A new owner is taking over, and she's not interested in keeping these cars, which go back to the 1950s or maybe even earlier. The guys on Benzworld are pretty worked up over this, as you might imagine; make the jump to see some heartrending photos and get the rest of the story.

Update: We just heard from Rebecca, owner of European Connection (the junkyard in the photos), and she states "I took the business over, over a year ago and I am not selling nor am I crushing." So, big sigh of relief for the uncrushed Mercedes-Benzes!
Yet another update: These cars and parts are for sale after all. Call European Connection at 800-395-8636 or email Rebecca.

    1966 Mercedes-Benz 250S, With Bonus Benz Poll

After almost a month since we last saw an Alameda Mercedes-Benz in this series, we're due again. Old Mercedes sedans are all over town (and, most likely, all over half the towns in the world), and they're so ageless that I often go right past them when eyeballing for potential DOTS cars. It's just that they've always been around; not in huge numbers, but present in the background.

    1972 Mercedes-Benz 280SEL 4.5

Last time we saw a Mercedes-Benz in this series, 86% of readers polled indicated they'd like to see some 70s Benzes down on Alameda's street (and speaking of The Island City That Forgot To Kill All Its Old Cars, congrats to fellow Alamedan Jimmy Rollins for winning the National League MVP award). I would have gone with this car regardless of poll results, since it represents the end of the W108 era and is in such nice shape. However, as is so often the case with older German cars, I can't figure out the exact year on this one. I'm pretty sure it's a 1971 or 1972 model, but that's as close as I can get (though those bumper guards look like they're off a later car). Mercedes-Benz fanatics aficionados, help me out here.
