That 600 looks familiar. Back in the late 80's, I used to see one in Oakland, by Lake Merrit, from time to time. Wonder if this is that same car?
That 600 haunted me a little bit. I'd see the 600 on the freeway - silently exiting as I noticed it. Or it would be breezing around a corner, as I was stranded by a red light up the street.
My attempts to find the car were always fruitless. The Mercedes-Benz 600, to this day, remains an automotive Flying Dutchman to me.
@Maxichamp: Hopefully they won't just be limited to collectors in filthy-rich Japan - one of my perverse fantasies is to cruise the streets of Shanghai in an SM just for a break from all the Cherys and Santanas clogging the highways. Maybe not, say, Cambodia - though South Asia might have some Traction-Avants from the French Indochina days - but there's definitely a burgeoning group of car enthusiasts that would eventually come to appreciate such magnificent iron.
With all the news of China becoming global, it's a shame there aren't any bigwigs there with the fine taste of classic cars.
@Maxichamp: I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, it would suck if ALL the good cars got shipped away and we were left with nothing. As it stands now, however, classics are still surprisingly thick on the ground in CA. It would take a pretty massive exodus to make a noticeable dent. I can't tell you how many times I've seen a car advertised as "rare" somewhere else, and later hop on Craigslist SF and find five of the same model for sale.

A few months ago, I met a guy at a gas station who was delivering a Citroen SM from LA to the docks to be shipped to Asia. I thought: What a shame.
