Most Excellent! Now I can replace my Tacoma with a diesel that has less than 300% more displacement than I need really. Until now, if you wanted a diesel truck, it was impossible to get anything less than a full blown towing rig. And I don't believe that it won't be coming to the US. There is too big a market for it, and they already have the engine emission spec'ed for the US market.
It's a good looking little truck, though I really can't say that I'll miss it here - I still have an unfavorable impression of VW's quality and value, especially their utes.
Another biggish truck with an itty tiny bed. If you're going to call it by an Inuit name, shouldn't it have the capacity to carry a useful amount of firewood? I understand that it gets pretty cold where those folks are from.
Trucks should have real capacity, not a nodding acknowledgement of the need for capacity.
@FrankGrimes: My previous job years ago we had some 5 Cylinder Colorados. They were such dogs in the sand... If the Amarok has any of the Touareg's DNA it would destroy a Colorado off highway. Factor in an interior light years ahead of anything in a Chevy truck...
ahh screw it... we'll never see it in the states...
Hopefully, the next generation generation of VW cars will be named with more inscrutable names, picked by IKEA designers. The VW Kwobo, VW Jankko, VW Apskar etc...
Poor truck, you know, some auto badges just don't belong on certain vehicles, case and point. I saw this picture and first reaction is whaaaaaa? Then it morphs into this crappy "ahhh, uurgh, I think I'm gonna blow chunks." VW, stick to those herbies and euro compacts your so good at, hell, bring the microbus back. But this is just....wrong. Its like some bastard retard from VW getting together with the toyota tundra thinking they can make something better than a F-150 truck. Just stop while your ahead, spare this poor autistic truck.
Of course, all VW knows is little euro compacts. Because, you know, it's not like they also own Scania, MAN or Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. That's right, keep telling yourself that.
VW's Department of Naming Products Division needs a reshuffle. They've gone from simple, fun names like "Golf" (ok, that makes no sense, bad example) to "Jetta" (very cool)-- even "Westfalia"-- but then we get "Toe-Rag"--and even though their own ads made fun of it, people still refrained from saying it. Toe-Rag. Tour-Egg. Tor-egg. Turrr-ig.
And so now we get Amarok. Which is clearly trying to copy "Tundra" -- which is another stupid vehicle name (giant, open, frozen wasteland?).

Wait, it's probably not very expensive or equipped with any luxury features...that'll never sell in the US.

Amarok:"Sorry I don't think we have."
Me:"Ya I am almost certain I have seen you somewhere before."
Amarok:"Are you sure? You don't look familiar to me."
Me:"It was a few years ago. You look a little different but I am certain it was you."
Amarok:"Really? Sorry I don't recognize you."
Me:"Oh I remember where we met. It was at the Chevrolet dealer. We talked a little while. Your name is Colorado isn't it?
Amarok nervously stares at the ground her eyes reveal the answer.
Me:"Wanna go for a drive sometime."
Amarok interrupts as she heads for the door "I gotta go."
Me:"Colorado!"
Door slams shut.
The end.

Hopefully they'll change their minds and jump into the pool with the Ranger, Colorado, Frontier/Equator, Dakota, Ridgeline, and Tacoma.
If you want to be Automaker Über Alles, selling trucks in 'Mercuh can't possibly hurt.

Ja, Ja. Inuit.
