    Audi face and Camry ass.
Actually, apart from the generic rear end, I kinda like this. But when they get to the "special door tread plates"--unless they actually polish my shoes or something when I get in, it sounds like they're flogging it a bit to hard.

I was all set to dump on the CC as an unnecessary re-do of the already sales and price-challenged Passat. But you know what? After seeing several on the street, I have to say that it looks really good. It's the best take yet on the "four-door coupe" idea - far, far better looking than the softened-wax Mercedes CLS. The R-line can be easily skipped as a paint-on performance package, though.

@tonyola: I agree, it's a beautiful car as it is, and if there are no performance mods included in this package, it doesn't need to be tarted up like this to be attractive. One of the few new cars I've seen in person that dropped my jaw. (To be fair, I am a mouthbreather.)

I don't get it. What's wrong with the CC rear end? Considering how fat the normal Passat's is, I consider it a massive improvement.

My favorite line is "cast the Passat CC in an even sportier light". That's the 3rd thing I ask at a dealer. "How much hp? How much does it cost? How sporty of a light does it project?".

@Saboth: Perceived list of concerns buyers have when making the purchase decision as created by Automakers and their Marketing 'Think Tanks'

    1.) Is it Ground breaking?
2.) Does it provide a holistic solution to my hierarchy of needs?
3.) Is it the best [car model name] ever?
4.) Does it cast a sporty light?

I think VW is the first automaker to come up with a press release that even the ePRS (US Patent No. c11077983) can't summarize.

Of course, it doesn't contain much information. Particularly since there don't seem to be any performance gains. In that case, I'm going to pass.

However, there is probably a market for this. Strike that, there is a market for this.

Style over function: that used to be quite un-Volkswagen.

So an up-charged cosmetic variant of the Passat undergoes even more cosmetic variation for yet another price increase.

I just see a boatload of disparate bodylines in the side view. You have the sideskirt, then you have the molding at another angle, the crease at a third angle, then the window sill matching the molding. And those hood lines are still a trainwreck.

It cuts a nice silhouette, but still bugs me in those details.

So I went to MazdaUSA to see how this compared to the Speed6 and found:
    1. there is no 2009 Speed6
    2. the mileage for this is much better than the 2009 Speed3

I like VW's and very much like Audi's, but I bought Mazda6 and think the Mazda3 and 6 are better looking than this VW, totally humble opinion.

@MarywithanM: I agree on all aspects except the Mazda grille. It bugs me.

VW and Mazda are both in high esteem in my books. VW/Audi is making just a whole series of "holy crap, WOW!" engines, while Mazda is doing that with the whole rest of the car and giving them less inspiring engines. (Although the MazdaSpeed cars absolutely deserve respect!)

@FuzzyPlushroom: Yes, I agree, but I feel that is the exception that proves the rule. That would be a great engine in so many other automakers' lineups, but with VW, it's rubbish.

I was thinking more of the RS6's twin-turbo V10, but as a 20V de-turboed Lysholm 1.8 is my next engine buildup over the next few years, I am forced to agree with you.

Gorgeous on the outside, but I would fear that the rear headroom must be severely compromised (like with the Benz CLS and the W211 rebody of the E-Class).

At 6'6", I value headroom highly (pun intended).

@Charles_Barrett - Now with Variable-Valve Timing: Personally, I wonder if it would be. Look at the beltline. It's designed to deceive the eye into thinking it's a straight line, when it actually swoops upwards at quite an angle, making it look a lot lower than it actually is. I'm just over 6'1", and I sat in the back of the XF with tons of headroom to spare.

@Deartháir: I've got to admit, the proof of the pudding is in the eating...! I haven't sat in the VW CC or the MBZ CLS, and I have a friend who bought the newer W211 E-Class (black-on-black like my W210), and SHE commented about the rear headroom in her car. She's a petite woman, so it can't have been first-hand experience (besides, who rides around in the back seat of their own car...?)

@Charles_Barrett - Now with Variable-Valve Timing: i would imagine so... compromised headroom isn't good.... unless there is a wagon option... compromised headroom can make people buy a wagon... worked for my parents!

300c's vertical glass caused my 6'2" brother (and the next one down... who was 5'11" at the time) to hit his head... so they bought a magnum... more or less exactly the same car.. but a lot more room in back...

granted... my dad has always been a wagon man... i grew up with GM wagons (olds, pontiac, chevy, buick-- i think we had them all..)... and then graduated to the suburban a.k.a. 'the fat-man's station-wagon'... but with a family of 7.. and early 90's wagon offerings not being so great... who can blame him..

You know, it's no secret I'm a VW/Audi fan. I like their designs, and even though I'm not completely nuts about the Gen V Jetta/Rabbit, they're still better-looking than a lot of other cars on the market.

But really, why put this engine in the Passat CC? It's a big car, and with all that weight, it's not going to show off the potential of the engine as well as it could. As it sits, it ends up only slightly better than the G8 GT. Driving it carefully on the highway, and letting the fuel management system work as much as possible, I got around 7L/100km, according to the on-board computer. That's 33 mpg, from a bigger car with more peak horsepower.

Now, if VW were to take this engine, and put it in, say, a two-door GTI, preferably with the R32 all-wheel-drive system...
