What does an LS9 crate motor go for these days? I assume if it's got an aluminum block it's not going to be cheap, but I've seen some custom engines in the $12k to $20k range, would like to know how it compares in price.
This is where, if I weren't at work, I'd post pictures of the FD RX-7 I saw at LeMons New Orleans with an LS (well, technically Vortec) engine. Sublime.
@Taco Mudplushroomz: A local guy has an FD with a GTO LS2 under the hood. I still think it's sacrilegious to have a non-Wankel in a Rx7, but I have to admit the car is impressive...
@Gearhead_42 and Steve Neill: I understand your concern, but the guy had been through at least two Wankels already (it may have been four) in the years he's owned the car, so I can't blame him. The swap was extraordinarily neat, and being able to tell people your RX-7 has a Silverado engine underhood? Priceless.
I wonder if I can cram one into my V70... hmmm, transverse AWD V8, difficult... However the application of the General's fine LS products to rear-drive Volvos has, in the past, yeilded fine results. I'm at work at the moment, so can't paste youtube links, but if you search Volvette you'll get all the results you need ;)
I went on that zorly.com link you sourced it from, then I saw an advert that said "Reach out and touch someone else's wife," so I clicked on it out of curiosity...
...and I think I may have lost all faith in the world. [www.ashleymadison.com] The link is SFW, but it's horrible.
@Dhillaz drives a Chevrolet Taco: That's some fucked up shit right there. But if any of you ladies want to hook up, my username is TheGreatestDragonSinceWert0100.
@Mad_Science: That's part of the reason such a swap has never really appealed to me much. I'd prefer to get an old Galaxie and swap in a tuned Triton V10.
Yeah, it's an okay engine, I guess. I mean, it's no Volkswagen W-engine, but it's got some neat stuff going for it.
Now that I've properly baited tenbeers, I can admit that the LS-series engines are absolutely fantastic, and probably the best thing the General has going for them right now. Those engines alone are worth the current value of the company.
@Mad_Science: It's surprisingly affordable, actually, it says here in the practice script I wrote to justify this to myself at four in the morning.
But seriously, I mean the calling around looking for parts and info stage. It's a long-term project, no doubt, and I'll almost certainly wind up using a salvaged drivetrain and not the crate motor, but come on. If Carrol Shelby did it, so can I.
@discontinuuity is once again meme-free: Using one of FM's kits, eventually. It's very much a long-term project; there's only so much I can do while living in Brooklyn, but parts accumulation is no problem. Once I move somewhere with a garage, the real fun begins.

Still not that bad for a 638hp motor...

I don't get half of that shows here but I've never seen this atrocity in the ones I do get.

Uh... so I hear. Ahem.

Of course, the good/bad thing about such a swap is just how easy it would be. If nothing else, The General knows interchangeable parts.

Not to mention the V10 doesn't much more power than the 390 that's already in my wagon would, given a little warming-over.

Are you using a kit or doing it all yourself?
