    I actually wrote a letter complaining to my two senators and my congressman about the sad state of affairs of diesels in this country several months ago. If we all did the same we would get a response fro our government.

    Here is a letter I sent to one of them to use as a template if you wish. You can find their email accounts at:

    I have heard that recently GM has decided against building their new diesel engine for light duty trucks. I have also heard that some of the big diesel engine manufacturers are having a difficult time meeting the new EPA regulations for diesel emissions. I believe that the EPA regulations involving diesels have become so onerous that they are limiting product availability. Diesels are generally far more efficient that gasoline engines, but because of low sulfur fuel and new EPA requirements the advantage of this technology is fading. Many Europeans own automobiles that get very good mileage and we have no hope of ever buying these cars here with the current regulatory climate. We as a nation would burn far less fuel if more automobiles used diesel engines. It is time for the EPA to lower its requirements.

    Just be respectful when you write and if they get enough input, the regulations will change.

    I like how the manly male logo is much larger on the new S80. I look forward to seeing its sibling on my next new Volvo in 2013, if they still exist.



    The logo also means iron and Mars if you were wondering.

    The interior of the S80 is so much more than a rebadged Ford. It's fab and extremely well designed. And the ride? Wow. If it's just a Ford, it's a really, really great Ford.

    @SirNotAppearing: Or she. But seriously, the one thing I've always noticed about the interior of Volvos is how tiny they are compared to the outside. The V70 is downright claustrophobic, and it's a rather large vehicle.

    @SirNotAppearing: As a V70 owner, I have to agree to a point: the rear leg room is down right small for a car that size. I guess strong body structure and very comfortable front seats do take a lot of room...

    Each night before I go to sleep I kneel down at the side of my bed to pray with my hands clasped and my eyes raised to the heavens in search of god above to invoke him with these simple words.


    Dear god, please let the Swedish build crazy assed cars again and smite the vile Americans who are preventing them from doing so. And if you could park a Murcielago in my driveway by morning, preferably in double black, I would be ever so grateful.

    And here I was, thinking that Fords are now downmarket Volvos. I'd like to hear more about how they manage to eke all those mpgs out of that sedan, but find it intriguing. The design is fine, in that A-6 Mercedes sedan that looks like a coupe way. Guess we're going to be seeing a lot of that.

    Say what you will, but the Tuarus, MKS, and S80 are great cars, and any one of them would look just fine in my drivewayy.

    @Jagvar: Yes.


    But, truth be told, the Ford Five Hundred was not a bad car either. It was about as exciting as a Camcord, and was saddled with a CVT, but it was an otherwise solid car, and got solid reviews.


    When they tried to rename it the Taurus, however, and Dave-ify the car, is when it got bad.
