So, it's a less good-looking diesel Audi A1? Liked it better the first time.

These second gen Foxes were pretty simple, elemental cars. Not bad, but not particularly durable, either. I knew some folks that had them, bought new. Never heard them bragging about them, never noticed them keeping them very long.

Reminds me a lot of a Fit.

First gen Fox/Dashers were pretty nice for their time.

I laugh at your silly American soap opera car companies. There is no room for weakness in making ze Auto. Volkswagenwerk will bring you the future. The future is diesel and diesel-electric. Have a nice day.

    We are the VAG.
    Resistance is futile.
    You will be assimilated.

Doesn't the diesel Polo already achieve these MPG numbers (without all the smug hybridery)?

    A 1,500 lb., four-passenger, diesel-electric hybrid.

This. Will. NEVER. Sell. In. America.

There's not 'sport' in the name, it's a diesel, and it's still hatchbacky-looking.

/I think it's the correct direction, which is also wrong, based on the stupidity I see, daily.

Not bad at all for a purpose-built eco car. Reminiscent of the current Scirocco in many ways.

@Ash78, tryptophanatic: My thoughts exactly, but with a C30 rear end.

I have a 4 mile commute and I would drive this in a second. Fill ups would be like every 6 months!

I have only seen one of these in the last five years, and it was half gone to the dreaded tinworm. These cars rust like nothing else I've ever seen.

I still want one, but even more, I want the Saveiro version...

My older brother's first car was a Fox 3 door wagon. I used to ride in the back seat to school as the Jr. High was a block from the High School and my brother actually offered to drive me. The Fox was so gutless and crappy he sold it after 3 months and bought the most bitchin' 71 Ford Bronco with a 351 Windsor in it.

Consequently it was much cooler to grab roll cage and hop over the side of the Bronco than it was to unfold my 6 foot frame out of the backseat of that penalty box of a VW.

That must be one of the most optimistic speedometers of the time.

I think top speed on the speedo should be, at most, 10 MPH more than the vehicle can attain. If it's governed at 118 MPH, put a 120 MPH speedo in it. Okay, 125, but 160 MPH? Puhleeze.
