    In reply to 2010 Dodge Viper ACR Debuts At Laguna Seca, Sets Lap Record

    I watched a beautiful older model Viper tear up an SCCA Autocross track this weekend. It showed sexy and powerful amongst a group of more power hungry Euro and Rice tuners. It was not the fastest thing through the torturous twisties that Autocross relies on, that was relegated to abnormally aspirated AWD's and BMW's. It was however, the best looking, best sounding stock monster there. The Viper made the sheer 'get to the gate' brake, punch, brake, punch look incredible, even when it overpowered itself and spun into the grass.

    Every test/review of the viper cite the crudeness as a negative. I guarantee they will also miss it when its gone. It wont be long before they start writing about the lack of a "pure" machine again. Computer aides are nice (especially on a daily driver) and they can make any driver feel talented, but they also steal much of the soul from a car.

    You are viper. You will be missed.

    @skaycog was here: The Viper is probably my favorite American car of all time, but I wish they didn't sound like a red-lining UPS truck.

    @BRAWNDO_POWERED:
    They are really neat cars, for sure. I live in small town and have only seen one in person. I was sitting at a stop light, on cell phone (shame on me), when a Viper drove down the highway. I started yelling in my phone....."A Viper, A Viper". My girlfriend I was talking to freaked out. (My girlfriends don't understand my love of cars anyway).

    @skaycog was here: Hahaha I feel ya man. I always just go "Oooh" or "Damn!" and then put reality on hold for 5 or 10 seconds until the car goes by. I tell the girlfriend that at least it's a piece of machinery I'm lusting after and not a piece of something else..

    @iancoleTX: Yes, it's okay to lust after cars. Period. BTW, I'm not a guy. That's the main reason my girlfriends don't understand. My guy friends get it though.

    @skaycog was here: Same here, I yell out when I see something interesting ("oh shit, a Cobra... no, it's probably a clone... wait, can't be, it's a 289, OH MY GOD IT'S REAL!"). Mom is afraid I'll crash because I do it so often, but I force myself not to rubberneck in such instances.

    @skaycog was here: My bad! I appreciate the approval from the other side of the gender divide.. I think the girl is getting used to it. I tested my boundaries on Saturday when a shiny new F430 Scuderia appeared in traffic. Cold weather be damned, the windows go down when that engine sings, lol

    @iancoleTX: Not many girls are really 'into' cars. I think there are less than 6 of us on Jalopnik. Maybe your girlfriend will take an interest and join in.

    And so it goes . . . the most wildly ridiculous and over the top supercar ever built rides into the sunset. Leaving in its' wake a 7:22 lap of the Nurburgring (I like the Nurburgring decal on the lower right of the decklid) and pounding hearts everywhere. While not the most comfortable or easiest to drive, it was the most rewarding. A car that, when you got it just right, let you know with resounding speed and unrivaled ability.

    Farewell, king snake, farewell.

    Compared to the many o' crack pipes we've had for similar price, I think this deserves a nice price.

    Mainly being... Ya know, a sports car, and not something that is riced beyond imagination.

    As long as the title aint salvage, that's a nice price right there. I actually like the fact that he didn't pressure clean the engine, it means it's more likely that the wiring is still functional.

    That's a cool car, and it looks like this guy got plenty of fun out of it, so good for him. I want it, but I wouldn't buy it due to the cost of maintenance, the cost of insurance, the impracticality, and other boring realities.

    I voted nice price because I've got a soft spot for 1st gen-vipers.

    But in reality I'd save the money, put it in the E30 M3 Piggy bank. :)
