Here in Australia up until recently, nearly all left-hand-drive cars (up to 30yrs old) had to be converted to right-hand-drive. Consequently there are a lot of American muscle in right-hand-drive format.

The main reason we can convert LHD to RHD so easily is because of the American heritage built into Aussie cars.
We use the running gear out of our 'big three' variants into the US 'big three' variants.
It saves doing a lot of custom work, Steering boxes, steering columns, engine mounts, suspension parts etc, they're just a mirror image of the LHD versions...
Example...
For a Dodge Charger or Challenger we use an Aussie Chrysler Valiant and Charger for parts.
For a Mustang or a Cougar we use an Aussie Ford Falcon. -almost a straight swap
For Camaro Firebird, Impala etc we use Holden Kingswoods
A lot of these parts are inter-changeable and in some cases the only custom job is the new dash cowling. We share a lot of parts with our yank variants and end up in a unique position to build RHD yank-tanks that's as close to factory as possible.

I think the reason the older car looks so much better is because they didn't have pedestrian-collision criteria to design to. In the old days, if a car hit you, you were sliced in half. Nowadays, its almost pleasant to find ones self gently bounced off the soft, curved frontal areas of a modern car.

If I want a relatively large, poor-handling vehicle to cruise around in and occasionally roast rear tires, $20-30k gets you a near-perfect classic, versus $30-40k++ for a new one.
