I said it yesterday: big whoop. A big price tag isn't enough to justify me giving a rat's ass.
Okay, carbon fiber body. So? I got a steel body on my truck. It keeps the wind from blowing up my shorts at speed, and prevents passersby from ogling the hot engine pr0n under the hood. I would think that the idea behind carbon fiber is weight reduction, but I'm not hearing anything about it.
You want to draw me in? Whip up an ultralight Atom fighter, using the same engine and tranny. Carbon fiber for the minimalist chassis, if necessary. This thing is just silly. It's pretty and all, and the black wheels are frankly compelling, but the rest of the whole concept is just goofy, a "look at what I can do" kind of project. As a marketing statement, I don't hate it. As a product, it's answering a question nobody is going to ask. #fordmustang
@Ryan Cooles: Yeah...yeah. (notice, no commas in the ellipsis) That's pretty much the entire point Gittin is making, that his operation can work the carbon fiber magic well enough to wrangle an entire Mustang body. So he really is doing a concept car from that perspective, as an example of what he can do.
I'm remembering the old Firebird concepts, the Ford Nucleon, the Citation IV. These were pitched as thought experiments - "we've built these things and we're playing with some ideas, looking at where this vehicular paradigm fits in with how people travel and work." The Firebird was pretty much a bust - it was a jet plane sans wings. The Nucleon too - Atomic Age enthusiasm cut radically short by flinty-eyed G-men with geiger counters. That and any Nucleon customer would birth three-headed babies, but that's neither here nor there. The Citation IV was a much more realistic idea; park a GenIII Prius next to one and you won't see a lot of difference. (Thanks for dropping that ball 20 years ago, GM!)
But is Gittin's CF Mustang a concept - an engineering and marketing device - or a sample? If it's a sample, it seems just silly. #fordmustang
Thanks for the comments everyone. I just wanted to clarify a few things and answer a few questions. I saw on here.
This car is insanely priced because it is insanely expensive to build. The profit at the 135k is minimal. I will send a full spec sheet out in the near future and I think everyone will understand I went a bit overboard with the quality of the build especially the parts list. I wanted the car to be Elite and outrageous, it was not built to sell however the craftmanship is just to incredible not to at least offer a few. While it was built to be one of the most insane street cars out there the car was not built to be the most insane performing vehicle on the road, however it should run with some pretty serious cars out there esspecially if you dial in the suspension to its potential.
Absolutely there is other cars that would handle better much cheaper. This is not some get rich scheme, I did this because it is something I have wanted to do for a long time and I wanted to do something new and different which is what Mustang RTR is.
The car weighs 3355 wet. We dropped about 400lbs + prior to adding super charger, intercooler, oversize radiator, Huge brakes etc..
Thanks again for the comments, hopefully as more details are released everyone will "get it" #mustang
@pinkshinyalan: I think it's that good. The intake on the 2010 models is the Ford Racing Performance Products air intake previously only available on the Bullitt and frequently purchased as an aftermarket replacement itself for 2009 and older cars (tho the C&L or the JLT intake in use with the SCT tuner seem to be the preferred combo meal). The stock exhaust is pretty free flowing, and most only replace it for the sound; hp gains from changing the exhaust is like three horsepower. But sound matters too ;) #mustang
@PotbellyJoe - As seen on I-287:
Alright, now see this? This is a four-way road, okay? And dead in the center is a crisp, new, hundred dollar bill. Now, at the end of each of these streets are four vehicles, okay? You following?
Good. Over here, we have a non-stickered, dealer installed, with factory warranty intact Mustang drifter. Down here, we have a stickered to all hell poorly accessorized Asian import drifter. Over here, we got Santa’s sleigh, and up here the Mach5. Which one is going to get to the hundred dollar bill first?
This is a serious exercise. It's like an SAT question. Which one is going to get to the hundred dollar bill first the non-stickered drifter, the stickered drifter, Santa’s sleigh, or the Mach5? #mustang
@Van Sarockin, rogue trebuchet: Yes, there are certainly worse (and less cost-effective) upgrades to be had. You know, like adding carbon fiber parts to a car that wasn't designed around carbon fiber structural bits. Fiberglass is cheaper and lighter, but less bling, I guess. #mustang
@stevecmh: Front splitters are a functional thing almost exclusively so if it happens to look like a racecar (even if it is NASCAR) then it's doing its job. #mustang
@mr_dude: Only if they are for performance parts, your car is an Impala, Fuzion, Avenger or Camry and you're as drunk as the average NASCAR fan. #mustang
Can't call it a Rustang anymore if carbon fiber doesn't rust.
BMW is fully committed to making their pigs more svelte by investing a lot of money into carbon fiber research, in an effort to make it cost effective to use in all production vehicles. Read the news about it on autoblog.com #mustang
@grzydj: The bonding of metal to the carbon fiber could still corrode. So I guess this would make it a, "Eff you and the horse you corrode in on." #mustang
I knew it would be an incredible feat of engineering to make a pusstang handle well, but even I thought it could be done for less than $100k worth of "lightness"... #mustang

Is Ford's stock intake and exhaust just that good, or is the 9 hp number wrong? #mustang

Given the insane pricetag, they should have used "Shelby" name on this.
Given that those two names are already used, they should have dipped into the "special edition name bowl" on this.
Given they've done that about two dozen times and the bowl's a little empty, may I humbly submit my Mustang Boggle name:
The "Shelby Cobra Gittin' Metamucil" Mustang. #mustang
