My Grandmother lives down there. Her neighbour's BMW is already flooded out and her power is out because the transformer was placed on the ground. In a costal region who thought that was a good idea?
I am going to call her and make sure she's OK now.
While you're giving advice on how not to die from flood waters, could you put in a bit about how not to kill your fellow man at the same time? Not that anyone who needs to be reminded would ever actually read Jalopnik, but hey, you can say you tried.
Several years ago, we were having typical Texas spring weather, which includes bouts of Old Testament style rain. I was trying to drive home, and there was low ground between the office and the house. I was driving a MINI at the time. I found the least-flooded road, but had to cross some water that was probably up to the door sills. I waited a few moments until there was nobody in the crossing - I didn't want to have to stop in the middle - and then made a run at the water. About halfway thru, someone in a H2 came barging thru at full steam, their wake pushed me to the left nearly into a submerged curb, as well as throwing about 50 gallons of water up onto my hood and windshield, making it really hard to see, and posing the risk of getting water into the intake.
I made it to the house in one piece, but I was about ready to commit murder. #astonmartin
As a kid when it rained hard and the gutters got overflowing I used to wish it would flood all the streets so I could ride a jet-ski to school. I didn't own a jet ski though.
This just sucks man.
Someone with a scuba forklift needs to save that thing. #astonmartin
Considering the resale value plummet of a Vantage is only exceeded by a Maserati I would think the owner is praying for more rain. Lots more rain. #astonmartin
I'm a few hours away but I have no way to tow it or haul it. Maybe it will float inland.
Seriously, here in VA it's been sideways rain all week and it is supposed to continue through Saturday. Add a layer or two of slick fallen leaves, and it's been some delightful driving conditions. #astonmartin
@Novaload: I've heard that the roads going over Swift Creek Reservoir are about to get submerged. I live out that way so I'm planning my drive home already. #astonmartin
so back in the "old day's" people's last names often came from their profession... like 'skinner' and 'baker'... who the eff was effingham??? i mean.. there's a city in IL and apparently a street in the video above.. they had to be named after someone... who was this guy(girl? oh god, that's worse) and what the eff was he doing???? #astonmartin
I saw the title of this post and knew I better go get my coffee before I opened it. I was right. I probably won't be able to leave my desk for a while. It would be inappropriate to walk around a professional office pitching a tent.
Excellent story, Peter. Thanks for the history on this rare and, until today, unknown-to-me Aston Martin.
Ah, the Sultan of Brunei. The man I most aspire to be in life. He owns Ferrari 456 four-doors and shooting brakes. He has the only Bentley Java outside Bentley's styling studio. There's a rumour that in the leanest years of the 1980's his patronage was the only thing keeping Aston Martin in business. He takes his ludicrous wealth and uses it to keep craftsmen in business making (mostly) beautiful things. Like the carpocalypse bailout, with more beauty and fewer G3s.
@Jamesface: Personally, I always liked his Mercedes Benz 300 SL gullwings, which grafted the original style SL sheetmetal onto a then modern R129 chassis with a V12.
