    Any way, if anything this means that it is even cheaper now to own a hybrid, so the recoup is faster, especially when gas prices are going up again, which they are (and will significantly once the Opec have agreed on production cuts)

    So, if the price is off 25% from its peak of twice MSRP, then your used Prius is only fifty percent more expensive than list for a new one. That'd have me shaking in my boots.

    In all fairness the birth of the hybrid craze has changed the automotive world for the better. New ideas are never a bad thing...poor implementation of new ideas is something else.

    And with electric cars left on the rear burner we are going to see a repeat of the last fifteen years starting now. So save those Prii as they'll be the collectibles of the year 2025

    Well, considering the 41% drop in new car sales in February, and the average 4.8% drop in durable goods orders each month, a 23.5% drop in used cars sales, hybrid or other wise, seems pretty reasonable. I think I'll hold onto my fleet of Geo Metro FEs I have squirreled away in the desert.*


    *I don't actually have any GEO Metros, don't even bother asking to by one, it was a joke.

    I think this article needed to call out pricing on used trucks/SUV's, which are basically up beyond where they were this time last year. So, while all sales suck, used trucks/SUV's are a bright spot, where demand is basically outstripping supply.


    Hopefully this pushes a few more people into new ones.

    and if you want to really be cheap...

    New Yaris - $12K


    And if you REALLY want to be really cheap, there are a few cars that are allegedly selling for ten grand with no AC, no power anything, and standard transmission. If all you want is that new-car smell and you don't live in one of those 110-degree-in-July states, there is a Hyundai Accent or a Nissan Versa with your name on it.


    As much as I think the Prius is a really kewl whiz-bang must-have item, when it comes to actually writing a check, there are less expensive ways to save gas.

    @Lost in the age of Aerostar: I hearted you soley because of your name. An extended Aerostar was my high school ride, and puts modern minivans to shame. It was giant inside, and the truck chassis could handle a little muddin' every now and then.
    I now suspect I have more in common with TempoFanatic than I previously realized.

    @Lost in the age of Aerostar: Off topic? The topic is only a loose place to start from. No seat-bed or AWD for me. We did get about 20 people in it one time, and two tandem bicycles plus riders another time.
