This is what you call "product innovation." Something the big three lacked.
Sure, all the negative criticism about how ugly it looks are all over this thread, but the same people said the same things when the Scion xB came along. It's an entry level vehicle, therefore it's function over form. It's not pretty like a Ferrari but it's not supposed to be. Everyone said the Honda Element was ugly. Look at its sale figure and you'll know it's doing quite well.

As an 04 xB owner, I actually like the looks of it, but the car really shines when I have to move a piece of furniture (like the loveseat I moved a few weeks ago, hatch closed and all).
I HATE the looks of the Element, but I considered buying one because it's thoughtfully designed.
You're completely right. Any design can succeed if it does something (besides induce vomiting) particularly well.
You can bet I'll seriously consider a Cube for my next vehicle in a few years.

You know, at least bullshit my way through an explanation of what purpose a specific part serves to someone who doesn't know.
I was wrong![jalopnik.com]
They look like "SORRY" board game pieces that came out of the mold wrong and appear to be molded with the same plastic used in "pearl" tampon applicators.
THATS IT! They are cotton ball applicators. Used to stop up the bloody nose of the poor teenage boy whose father bought him THIS after the kid down the street with the new Camaro/Mustang/Challenger bullied him, called him a pussy, and proceeded to kick his ass!!!
"Jr. Be sure to tell your Father thank you for buying you a car"
"Yea, thanks Dad"

Kudos for that (and the rest of the car), Nissan.
