$1.85 is the lowest I've seen. $1.99 is still average (but it's dropping a few cents a week).

Tell me: why the hell is diesel still so freakin' much more? Four years ago, it was the same price as regular.

This is just great. Now we'll have to be bailing out Big Oil.

I saw $1.84 today in NE Wisconsin, looks like it'll go down even more.

Gas prices have very little to do with supply and demand. They are controlled by investments, plain and simple.

Really, these prices couldn't have come at a better time. Frees up some money to go to other places.

$1.65 is the best I've seen in E. Tennessee. Woohoo! Doesn't mean I'm going to stop hypermiling, it'll just make it easier for me to get my costs below $.04/mile!

Buck fifty something. Filled up the Geeyo for less than 16 bucks. Would have been $40++ 4 months ago. Unreal.

This is stupid. Hearing of people already abandoning their more prudent vehicles for beasts again...

Do we already overlook how shittty it got and how quickly? REALLY?

at the same time, however, driving the 65 Impala from SoCal to Seattle so I can hand wash it daily and have sex with it, looks all the more better financially!

I just filled up at the Stop & Shop. The reward points took off 20 cents/gal. So it ended up being $1.60/gal, filled up just under twenty bucks.

great. so, when GM finally rolls out the Volt and Ford brings in the Fiesta and Fusion Hybrid, we'll hear from all the pundits how the US automakers just don't get it, they just refuse to sell the cars we want, blah blah blah, and Toyota Sequioa's will be flying off the lot.

Oh wait, no one can get financing to buy ANYTHING.

    never mind.

@abgwin: The saga of fuel mileage entertains me to no end.

From the mid 80s up to the early 90s, GM (et. al.) were working on super-efficient concepts and even went so far as to launch the Geo brand.

...right as gas was as cheap as it's ever been.

Buyers flocked to SUVs, and again the Big 3 hooked their wagon up to those...right until gas went over $3, then $4/gal.

Now, as they scramble to bring over euro models and abandon RWD platforms (wtf, Pontiac?), gas gets back to super-low.

    Sucks to be those guys.

@Mad_Science: maybe they can unflip the switch on some of the poor choices they've "made"... 2nd gen G8?

$2.30 for Premium in El Lay, and I'm feeling nostalgic for my late-highschool days.

    (was like 2.05 for regular)

Gas got cheap enough that I started driving the '67 Ford just for fun. Unfortunately, as a result of that I had a fix a heater hose and it now appears I have a fuel leak back at the tank.

But hey, it sure sounds good when those secondaries open up.

$1.70 for 10% ethanol blend at my favorite station this morning. Regular unleaded is $1.86. Why is it that gas seems to be cheaper in the Midwest, a day's trip or more distant from the nearest refinery? That's always puzzled me.

A friend of mine who owns a used car lot is smiling again; the SUV's are moving once again.
