Needs a few more European market-specific cars, like the Renault 14, Alfa Romeo 75, Austin Ambassador or Lancia Kappa. And what about the Suzuki X-90?

Actually, pretty much any UK Chrysler/Rootes Group product ever, excepting a couple of big Humbers and the pretty Sunbeam Alpine/Tiger.

Another pair of Ford turkeys are the Mustang SVO (sold to a crowd that wanted V8s) and the Merkur XR4Ti (sold by people that didn't understand aspiring to something other than a Town Car).

@Maymar is convinced M.C. Escher engineered his car: Trouble is, you guys got it with the wrong engine. Back in its home territory it didn't have to be shipped with some asthmatic old turbo-4. We had the V6, plus decent 95/98 ron fuel to run the XR4i on.

@Rust-MyEnemy---AudiDoDat?: I've never driven one, but the turbo four has always seemed like an appropriately 80's choice to me. Plus, it's supposed to stand up well to stupid amounts of boost (even if I doubt Ford intended for that).

We did eventually get the Cologne V6 in the Scorpio, I don't know if that helped much.

If lust after this engine, you could also get it in 2.9L form in the Ranger and Bronco II for several years.

And in 4.0L form, you could get it in the Ranger, Aerostar, Explorer and the current Mustang.

Unless it was the Cosworth version, the Turbo 4 is more interesting and more powerful.

@petersterncan: The 2.9 was even notable for its mechanical problems!

Tell you what, though - I'd like to find a totaled '97+ Explorer and pull/swap the 4.0 SOHC into an XR4Ti.

@FuzzyPlushroom: Both the 2.8 V6 & 2.9 V6 were noted to be very reliable, the 2.9 being the better of the two. I had one years ago in a XR4x4, running around 290 bhp, never had a single problem with the car & it used to be quicker than mid-90's Scoobies.

Clearly there are enough yet-undocumented turkeys out there that this list needs to happen in several volumes. And one or two of those volumes should be devoted entirely to the Suzuki X90. Seriously, WTF was that thing?

A Crossfire is "Bland"??!! Are you farking kidding me? Like it or not, one thing you cannot say about it is that it's bland! It was one of the most unique cars to come out of Detroit in a while. Just went to show how much people buy into a badge. The same lackluster mechanicals sold just fine with a three pointed star on wheel hubs.

Might I also add that the Insight was available with an honest-to-Soichiro manual transmission?

How long til some enterprising ricers fit a K24 into one? Son of CRX! Sadly that ain't going to happen anywhere near me, since they're held in high regard as the cousin of all hybrids.

@Accordforall: The PT Cruiser may have been a styling flop, and may be four-wheeled Novocaine with the NA 2.4, but it's been a sales success for Chrysler. What other products do they offer that can say that?

By "GM Vans" I assume you mean the "dustbusters" and their dog's-arse-ugly spawn, all on the U-body platform... the first-generation models weren't bad for their time, though, to be honest. I'm assuming this distinction because, at least around here, the Astro's been a success.

    @Gearhead_42: Styled, yeah.

What do you mean by "constructed", though?

The Prius brought wacky good economy to a family-size car. It's a hybrid that's practical, and it actually came first in Japan. Plus, the hybrid system is much more technically interesting and complex.

Look, you guys are getting it wrong.

The Aztek, for example, is not a turkey, it's just awful.

A turkey is a car that's cool or innovative but didn't sell, whether due to taste or timing or cost.

The Bertone Volvo is awesome, but no one simultaneously wants a car like it and is a Volvo customer.

The SSR was too expensive for most of the market it appealed to.

The Insight got incredible mileage but only sat two and apparently was low-volume from the start.

    See what I mean?
