No longer. The automaker will now sell you a carbon fiber bodykit, lowered suspension, carbon mirror covers, a carbon steering wheel, and carbon side skirts straight from the showroom. We’re actually digging this white and black Maserati GranTurismo S, but we’d probably say “no thanks” to the tacky carbon bolt-ons.

The official press release follows:

The MC Sport Line customisation programme focuses on Maserati’s racing heritage fresh from its latest international triumph in the FIA GT championship with the Bertolini-Bartels duo in Argentina, the land of Juan Manuel Fangio.

Maserati has developed a special series of new options named “MC Sport Line”, which make their worldwide debut at the Bologna Motor Show, with new content that adds to Maserati’s already extensive range of personalisation options. The “MC Sport Line” is designed to enhance the sporty DNA of Maseratis for those customers who like to express their passion for racing through dynamic styling and a choice of technical solutions that increase driving fun without compromise.

The name “MC Sport Line” sums up the on-track experience gained by the Maserati Corse department, whose contribution to the design of the functional components has been invaluable. The world of motor racing also inspired Maserati’s designers when it came to styling, hence the extensive use of carbon fibre, exceptionally popular among racing enthusiasts thanks to its direct links to racing.

The GranTurismo S, the ultimate expression of Maserati’s performance, was the model chosen to first present the “MC Sport Line” catalogue to the public, which will be extended to the GranTurismo range and then will ultimately encompass the entire Maserati line-up during the course of 2009.

From early 2009, GranTurismo S customers will not only be able to enhance the sporty look of their vehicle’s exterior and interior — but different technical solutions will also be available.

Aerodynamics can be modified thanks to the addition of front and rear carbon-fibre spoilers, which benefit from track tests conducted on the GranTurismo MC Concept; the new aerodynamics not only optimise the vertical load but give the car a very distinctive appearance, as do the side skirts with the central panel finished in matt black, adding a dynamic edge to the side view.

The sporty look of the exterior can be completed with carbon fibre mirror housings and door handles. The same dark shade is reflected in the glossy black 20” wheel rims that perfectly match the dark line of the exterior.

The carbon fibre door sill bearing the words “MC Sport Line”, tells you that you are entering a different environment, in which carbon fibre characterises the door panels, dashboard and central tunnel.

The steering wheel rim is also made from carbon fibre, as are the paddle shifts for the electro-actuated transmission and the body of the instrument panel, dashboard and door panels, featuring carbon moulding. Looking at the central tunnel, carbon fibre dominates the entire section, acting as a backdrop to enhance the brilliance of the chrome.

The “MC” pedal block complete with kickplate to the left is machined from solid aluminium.

Under the “skin”, the suspension has been stiffened thanks to new, stiffer springs, shock absorbers and anti-roll bars; the new suspension set-up is synchronised with a specific Maserati Stability Programme software, allowing the driver more freedom. The car is now 10 mm lower than the GranTurismo S, resulting in on-road performance that is absolutely uncompromising in terms of handling and driving enjoyment.

All the features listed are available either as part of the customisation package, following the indications of Maserati designers; or individually, to cater for the personal tastes of each customer.

<![CDATA[ NISMO 370Z S-Tune: An Angry Catfish ]]> Here's eight new photos of the NISMO 370Z S-Tune package for the JDM version of the 2009 Nissan 370Z to add to those leaked scans we showed you last month. What they show is the design team at Nissan's in-house tuning shop's taking some serious risks with this angry-looking catfish. But rejoice, the 370Z S-Tune isn’t all show.

Performance upgrades include a NISMO stainless-steel performance exhaust, NISMO S-Tune brake pads, NISMO S-Tune springs and dampers and a new set of lightweight 19” forged aluminum NISMO LMZ5 wheels. Now although we may think it looks like an angry catfish, don’t take our word for it. Take a look for yourself and let us know in the comments below what you think. [via the370, 370ztech]

<![CDATA[ Flat Black Audi R8 Serving Mule Duties For STaSIS Upgrades ]]> Jason over at Audi tuner STaSIS just sent over these shots of a flat black R8 that they’re using as a development mule for a new range of upgrades. We’ve been hankering for a matte black Audi R8 ever since we first drove one and are pleased to see this one is getting more than just a sexy paint job. First on the list is a new exhaust system; no official dyno numbers yet, but that’s hardly the point. Click through to hear how good it sounds.

Next up is new suspension, bigger brakes and a set of gloss black wheels that Jason describes as, “B A N A N AS.” Apparently they’re quite large. That gloss paint will complement the gloss black sideblades, which are a seriously understated, but classy piece of customization. Us? We’re still holding out for a matte black R8 with gold wheels, logos and wheels, topped off with a white alligator skin interior. [via STaSIS]

<![CDATA[ Roewe Brings Modified 550s To Guangzhou ]]> Taking a leaf out of their Western counterparts’ books, Roewe is showing off a group of badly modified Roewe 550s in an effort to get down with the young folk. Apparently, Chinese males between the ages of 18 and 34 find tacky modification as “groovy” as we do here in the states. We’re particularly impressed by the Liberace-esque gold lamé interior and hope it makes its way stateside when Roewe’s parent company Shanghai Auto buys the Not-So-Big Three.

<![CDATA[ Exclusive: Details Leak On "Warp" Optioned RENNtech Mercedes SL65 ]]> The Cold War may be over but the ongoing battle between Mercedes-tuning shops BRABUS and RENNtech continues to heat up. We've all seen this war of HP — BRABUS releases photos of their 530 HP AMG C63. Later that day RENNtech releases their tuned 548 HP AMG C63. Next, RENNtech tunes an SLR McLaren and throws in track time. Later in the week, BRABUS tunes their SLR McLaren and throws in a tuned Smart. But it was after RENNtech tuned a GLK hybrid last week when BRABUS deigned it necessary to create a "photon torpedo gap" between the two shops — releasing a tuned Tesla Roadster earlier today on the waves of spaceship-like sounds and LED lights. Not willing to let such a gap continue, our sources tell us RENNtech's upped the ante into a new galaxy with a mysterious "warp speed" feature. Hit the jump to hear what they had to say.

The biggest feature of the BRABUS Tesla is a "space sound generator" capable of creating the sound of a V8, or if you so desire, "beam" and "warp" sounds. They are not alone. An anonymous insider close to RENNtech had this to say:

We were very surprised to see that there was another tuner working on a warp option - and they have set the bar very high for other tuners looking to compete with a warp product. The message is clear: anyone who wants to tune cars in the 21st century will need more LEDs.

As of press time we've had no confirmation of the contents of such a system, but the leaked photo above seems to point to a type of warp drive seen on early Federation ships. RENNtech would would neither confirm nor deny the use of dilithium crystals.

<![CDATA[ Carlsson Aigner CK65 RS Eau Rouge Dark Edition Fails At Eau Or Rouge, Succeeds In Massive Power ]]> What "red water" has to do with the gray and black two-toned and tuned Carlsson CK65 RS Eau Rouge Dark Edition is anybody's guess, but that's what the Frenglish in the name means and we won't ask questions. Mainly that's because they can call the super coupe whatever they want considering the monstrous V12 Bi-Turbo delivers 705 HP for $400,000, or 756 HP for a smooth $470,000. That max power tuner model of the Mercedes CL65 will get you from zero-to-62 MPH in a kidney-punching 3.8 seconds with a top out speed of 208 MPH. Don't worry, while you're busy speeding up the rotation of the earth, you won't have to put up with the slovenly build quality of a mere Mercedes interior as interior customizer Aigner has gone to town, swathing every exposed surface in the finest suedes and leathers. Pity you mortals can't enjoy this kind of luxury as we've already reserved all ten to be produced. Sorry.

The automobile manufacturer Carlsson who is specialised on Mercedes Benz, extends its co-operation with the leather lifestyle brand Etienne Aigner AG and will exhibit the world premiere of the Carlsson Aigner CK65 RS "Eau Rouge" Dark Edition at the Zürich Auto Show (Auto Zürich Car Show, 13th - 16th November 2008, exhibition stand SAHLI & FREI AG - hall 2, stand C 01). Produced in small series, the luxury coupé is available with either a V12 Bi-Turbo with 705 hp or a second power level with 756 hp and 1,150 Nm.

The newly designed car front dominates the exceptional appearance. Both the front skirt with a front spoiler made of solid carbon as well as the car paint which renders appealing contrasts in two colours are eye-catchers. The special line Dark Edition of Carlsson Aigner CK65 RS "Eau Rouge" which is produced in small series and limited to only ten cars, is exclusively available in the double-coloured combination obsidian black metallic with Himalaya-gray. Shaded Bi-Xenon headlights with cone-shaped lights and the radiator grill with the jumping Carlsson horse perfect the front appearance.

Moreover, the sides are dominated by the three-part forged rims in 21". The glazed finished surface of the light alloy rims manufactured in forged technology, offers an absolutely masterful appearance.

The electrically adjustable sport seats with multi-contour function and seat heating have been upholstered with high-class leather according to the philosophy of the Leather Lifestyle Brand Aigner. Superb craftsmanship characterises the newly created interior. With the ergonomically shaped Carlsson sport steering wheel in a Leather/Alcantara-combination, the driver can control the Carlsson Aigner in a very pleasing way. Carlsson sport aluminium pedal pads and illuminated door sill protectors, as well as numerous other optical refinements guide the way into a world full of luxurious elegance.

The wooden appliqués were adjusted to the colour of the car paint and all visible plastic parts were covered with noble Aigner-Leather. The Aigner-A, embossed in the front headrests and the reverse side of the front seats, confirm the exclusive origin. Moreover,

the complete car interior, including handholds, sun shields and rear screen frame has been covered with Aigner-Alcantara.

The Carlsson sport exhaust system renders more output and an especially powerful sound. The rear section of the Carlsson Aigner CK65 is dominated by four end pipes in Carlsson design which impress by their sportive, earthy sound. In comparison to the serial exhaust system, the exhaust back pressure and pipe guide are optimised. Therewith, Carlsson achieves an improved torque and a higher performance. The new Carlson aerodynamics kit once again skilfully underlines the elegant silhouette of the basis model. But the Carlsson Aigner CK65 "Eau Rouge" Dark Edition has its own identity and an own profile, both in the exterior and also in the interior. The front spoilers and rear skirt lip are designed in the typical Carlsson Diffuser Look and the striking rear spoiler also eases handling the luxury coupe at high speeds. The exclusive Carlsson aerodynamics parts are made of high-class and ultra-light solid carbon, a material which is mainly used in the Formula 1.

Electronic lowering C-Tronic® SUSPENSION
For the Carlsson Aigner CK65, Carlsson exclusively offers an electronic lowering kit C-Tronic® SUSPENSION which lowers the car by approx. 30 mm. But the Carlsson C-Tronic® SUSPENSION does not only lower the centre of gravity, but thanks to an elaborate technology, also allows an intelligent interaction with the conditions on the road. When the road conditions are bad and continuously strong deflections arise, the height of the vehicle is automatically adjusted and the necessary remaining spring deflection is maintained. The driver can feel the effects of the C-Tronic® lowering by a reduced curl and significantly more agile driving characteristics.
Therefore, the C-Tronic® SUSPENSION also stands for more driving pleasure. Moreover, the C-Tronic® SUSPENSION guarantees that even when driving faster than 120 km/h, the serially feasible maximum lowering – and therefore the minimum vehicle level – is not undercut. This permanently guarantees a sufficient deflection. Besides, the air resistance and the lifting forces are lowered, as less air is flowing under the vehicle.

Technical masterpiece
The Carlsson motor makeover includes especially adjusted motor electronics with special ignition maps for fuel injection and ignition. At the intake side, special sport air filters render optimal ventilation. A sport exhaust system made of stainless steel optimises the exhaust back pressure. Therefore, the V12 is powerfully present in all situations and the driver can serenely draw on plentiful resources. Elegant and unsurpassed in its finish, the Carlsson Aigner CK65 is presumably the most exciting means of travelling at the moment. The Carlsson Aigner CK65 "Eau Rouge" Dark Edition with 756 hp offers a maximum speed of 335 km/h which is electronically regulated due to safety reasons and excels with an acceleration from naught to 100 in 3.8 seconds. With such results, the Carlsson Aigner CK65 outpaces nearly any other sports car.

The limited small series Carlsson Aigner CK65 "Eau Rouge" Dark Edition shows the many opportunities Carlsson offers for making individual customer wishes come true. Tailor-made modifications such as Carlsson sport running gears, Carlsson engines, Carlsson top break systems, Carlsson wheel-tyre combinations, limited slip differentials or also individual Carlsson Aigner interior designs and unique automobile pieces are put to life with the help of the Carlsson engineers and qualified specialists.

The idea, concept, preparation and finish especially show the performance efficiency of the Automobile Manufactory Carlsson. The Carlsson Aigner CK65 "Eau Rouge" Dark Edition surely is the most impressive proof for the successful synergy of two brands into a technically as well as creatively demanding automobile. Prices for the Carlsson Aigner CK65 "Eau Rouge" Dark Edition with V12 is start from 319,000 euros and for the V12 with Carlsson-Bi-Turbo in the second power stage from 374,000 euros.

<![CDATA[ BRABUS Creates First Tuner Tesla Roadster, Mates Star Trek Sound Effects To Electric Car ]]> When a customizer like BRABUS "tunes" a car, we expect more power, better handling, unfortunate chintzy gadgets and gimmicky styling. In the case of the BRABUS-tuned Tesla Roadster, a car they claim is the first ever tuned electric car, it's just the chintzy gadgets and gimmicky styling. The German tuner shop may be the first to take on the Tesla Roadster, but with no added power, no added acceleration and no changes to the suspension, we're unfortunately left with merely taking in the breathtaking addition of a "space sound generator." That's right, press the pedal and instead of a quiet whoosh of power, you get a simulated V8, simulated race car, and "two futuristic soundscapes named ‘Beam’ and ‘Warp.'" What? Yes, seriously. Hit the jump for more.

Add to the spacey sound track a truly silly marketing line of "space lights" known to the rest of the world as "under body neon," a classy lightning bolt logo below a yet even classier rear spoiler on the back, new leather interior and leather floors and you have a vehicle truly fit for Captain Kirk.

World Debut at the Essen Motor Show 2008

The Very First Tuned Electric Car Comes From BRABUS:
BRABUS Customization Program for the Tesla Roadster

The first tuned electric car comes from BRABUS: The first project of the future cooperation between Tesla Motors, Inc. and the new BRABUS business division Zero Emission celebrates its world debut at the 2008 Essen Motor Show. BRABUS (Brabus-Allee, D-46240 Bottrop, phone + 49 / (0) 2041 / 777-0, fax + 49 / (0) 2041 / 777 111, Internet www.brabus.com) presents an exclusive customization program for the Tesla Roadster, the world’s first electrically powered production sports car.

The new BRABUS logo with added lightning bolt is the trademark of BRABUS Zero Emission vehicles.

To give the sports car a more exciting sound the BRABUS electronics specialists have developed a ‘space sound generator.’ The occupants on-board the Tesla Roadsters can choose from several simulated engine sounds including that of a typical V8 combustion engine, a racecar engine and two futuristic soundscapes named ‘Beam’ and ‘Warp.’ The volume of the sound is dependent on the momentary power output of the electric motor.

A custom-tailored BRABUS tire/wheel combination further improves handling characteristics. The two-seater is refined with weight-optimized BRABUS Monoblock S light-alloy wheels in size 7Jx18 in front and in size 8.5Jx19 in back. BRABUS technology partner Pirelli provides the corresponding P Zero Nero high-performance tires in size 215/35 ZR 18 in front and in size 255/30 ZR 19 on the rear axle. These tires were developed to deliver minimum rolling resistance.

The two-seater also receives an even more striking exterior at BRABUS. The customization measures include a special high-quality ‘matte white’ paintjob. To give the mid-engine sports car an even more enticing face the BRABUS designers treat the front apron to a lightweight carbon-fiber front lip and daytime running lights integrated into the front grille. Matte-white surrounds for the headlamps add interesting detail to the overall effect.

The sides of the Tesla are upgraded with BRABUS entrance lights shaped like futuristic space lights. They are activated with the keyless fob or by pulling on a door handle. BRABUS carbon-fiber air inlets add even more sporty flair. Immediately apparent in the rear are the BRABUS rear wing and the BRABUS rear diffuser, both made from light yet extremely strong carbon fiber. The round taillights are accentuated further by matte-white applications.

The BRABUS customization program for the Tesla Roadster also includes exclusive interior options. The range of products starts with scuff plates with illuminated BRABUS logo. They are integrated into the top of the rocker panels.

The company-own BRABUS upholstery shop masterfully handcrafts exquisite custom interiors for the Tesla. The designers chose a combination of especially soft yet durable BRABUS perforated lightweight leather and Alcantara. The cockpit features white seams to reflect the exterior color. The vehicle floor is also upholstered with lightweight leather for added exclusivity.

The goal of the BRABUS customization concept for the Tesla Roadster is to define a potential limited edition as well as an individual tuning program for the Tesla driver.

<![CDATA[ Kumho Launches Ultra-Low-Profile 15-Series Tires ]]> Own a high-performance supercar but want to ruin its ride and handling? Well Kumho has just the thing for you! Presented today at SEMA were these new ultra-low-profile 15-Series “performance” tires. Available only in 385/15-22 size for now, they’re designed for the otherwise-competent Ferrari F430, Dodge Viper and Corvette Z06. But, while the 15-Series tires are just for looks, their complete and utter lack of sidewalls has an unexpected benefit.

Kumho describes its tires as having “semi-run-flat capability," though we're pretty sure since there's basically no air in them anyway, they're running semi-flat all the time. Judge for yourself: The actual press release, on which we can find no signs of cocaine, follows.

KUMHO LAUNCHES WORLD’S FIRST 15 SERIES TYRE

Ever the innovator, Kumho is launching the world’s first ultra low profile 15 Series tyre at the 2008 SEMA (Speciality Equipment Market Association) Show in Las Vegas this week (November 4-7).

The 385/15ZR22 size ECSTA SPT KU31 has been developed as a conversion option for such exotic sports cars as the Ferrari F430, Dodge Viper, and Corvette Z06.

The company has used cutting-edge computer simulation technology to optimise the sidewall structure, thereby preventing the formation of standing waves or ripples in the contact patch – a problem that can occur with the build up of heat at high speeds.

The new tyre also benefits from a semi run flat capability, ensuring it remains firmly fixed to the rim even after a puncture or general loss of pressure.

“The world’s first 15 Series tyre is a perfect example of what we have achieved through our ongoing commitment to research and development,” said Sae-chul Oh, Kumho’s President and CEO. “This is one of many innovations by our company which include aroma, coloured smoke and X-speed tyres. We will maintain our position at the cutting edge of tyre technology as we race towards our goal of becoming one of the world’s top five tyre makers.”

<![CDATA[ Honda Fit Tjin Is Going To SEMA ]]> Tuner Neil Tjin, already expected to display his work at SEMA next week with a custom Pontiac G8 CST, will also be bringing a surprise 2009 Honda Fit to the Vegas event. Details are still under wraps, but the Fit obviously receives Tjin's trademark baby blue paint, along with aftermarket alloys wearing low-profile rubber. We thought Tjin's G8 looked pretty sharp, but we're not so sure about this one; the black wheels make the already too-small wheelwells on the Fit look even tinier, and the whole thing has sort of a hopped-up Prius vibe to it. In person next week, it could be different. Make the jump for another view or click here for high-res versions of both photos.

<![CDATA[ Lorinser Tunes C-Class Up To 305 HP, Makes It "Hot" ]]> According to the press release from tuning shop Lorinser, the Mercedes C-Class is "hot" now that they've had their way with it. The tuner apparently used a beefier cam in conjunction with revised engine management to squeeze 33 extra horsepower out of the new Benz, rather than going the turbo route as they did on the Lorinser Smart ForTwo. A lowered suspension tightens up handling and a tuned exhaust combines with exterior badging to let everyone know that you're hot. Check out the "hot" press release below, complete with bonus heat metaphors.

Lorinser makes the C-Class "hot" with 305 HP

Digital revolution renders classic engine tuning more effective than ever

Hot camshafts? In the age of chip tuning, that sounds like a relic of the Eighties. Incorrectly, as there is not much extra power to be gained electronically from a naturally aspirated engine. Mechanical measures continue to be the first choice there, and more effective than ever before in combination with an adjustment of the engine management. One particularly successful example is the C 350 Limousine from Sportservice Lorinser, an almost irresistible temptation for everyone with petrol in their blood: special camshafts and a modified engine control unit kindle here far more fire than the series version of the extremely successful 3.5-litre V6. 305 HP (224 kW) instead of 272 HP (200 kW) are an end result that can be more than seen in a non-charged engine, especially since the fast Mercedes accelerates powerfully with 380 instead of 350 Nm, even at very low RPM. As a result of the tuning measure, the interval between opening the exhaust valve and closing the intake valve becomes bigger. The result is a "hot" overlap, which is where the camshaft modification gets its name from. On the other hand, the Lorinser lowering kit is responsible for the "hot" handling in the bend. An additional bonus in the driving-fun account.

Digital or analogue? Music fans may argue about this point, but not car enthusiasts. Of course, the Lorinser sports exhaust system plays music purely mechanically, and develops such a crescendo when the accelerator pedal is pushed enthusiastically that even eardrums get goosebumps. But the optical charms of the C-Class also easily arouse the desire to own one. Is it the well-designed exhaust tailpipes integrated into the Lorinser rear apron that the sporty roof and rear spoiler soar above? The muscular side sills or the striking front apron? An abundance of details that add up to a fascinating automobile. The model RS 8 matt black 19-inch light-alloy wheels draw attention to themselves as they provide exciting contrasts in combination with the white bodywork colour. An additional stylish alternative is the silver-coloured light-alloy wheel RS 9 from the Lorinser assortment. An offer that repeatedly proves in its totality that the Winnenden customiser won't be losing steam any time soon when it comes down to stirring up passions for automobiles.

<![CDATA[ ABT Sportsline Shows Off Carbon Fiber Film Wrap For Audi R8, Q7 ]]> We've all seen cars with full-body advertising wraps; now tuner ABT Sportsline has taken the concept to its logical "modified import car enthusiast" (MICE) conclusion with a carbon fiber film wrap for the Audi R8 and Q7. The wrap is just a thin adhesive film printed and textured to be nearly indistinguishable from actual carbon fiber. And, while the treatment doesn't lighten the car like actual carbon fiber panels would, neither does it add any significant weight or drag like most MICE faux speed parts. ABT Sportsline is producing the wrap in just matte natural carbon fiber for the moment, but if sales take off the company says they may offer more colors and extend availability to the TT and A4 also.

<![CDATA[ Porsche Panamera Sedan Teased, Tuned By Roock ]]> This shadowy image of the 2010 Porsche Panamera comes via 4wheelsnews, allegedly from tuner Roock Autosport. It's only the second time we've seen the upcoming Porsche sedan without any camouflage, and we can definitely see much more of the actual car than the first official teaser from Porsche. Though it's not clear exactly what has been modified on the car to turn the Panamera into the Roock RSP 555, but we're sure hoping that's not what the Panamera will look like stock. Turns out, this is just a rendering done previously for Top Gear. Make the jump to see the original.

We've seen the Panamera out testing in camo more than a few different times, but this phony teaser may be the best speculative glimpse yet at the forthcoming four-door. [via 4wheelsnews] [Autoblog] Thanks for the tip Gavin!

<![CDATA[ Hamann-Tuned "Volcano" Mercedes SLR McLaren Spied With Ugly Paint ]]> It looks like Hamann is working on a tuner version of the 208 MPH Mercedes SLR McLaren, which according to the license plate, will be dubbed "Volcano." Spied parked next to a Bentley somewhere in Germania, we can tell the Hamann SLR features six exhaust pipes, roof-mounted air scoop, rear diffuser, deep dish rims, wheel arch flairs, smoked lenses and a huge rear wing. Perhaps more noticeable is the awkward black and white paint scheme and the loss of what little class the SLR once had. <![CDATA[ Turbonetics F-150 SEMA Special Does Its Best Lightning Impression ]]> PickupTrucks.com reports the forced-induction freaks at Turbonetics are taking a perfectly good 2009 Ford F-150 and bolting on a ceramic ball-bearing turbo for this year's SEMA show. The boost, channeled through a Spearco air-to-air intercooler in the front air dam, should be good for about 100 extra horsepower from the 320 HP 5.4-liter V8. Given that this is SEMA we're talking about, Turbonetics was also obliged to add a lowering kit, custom body and paint work, meaty wheels and tires, carbon fiber and suede interior bits and a mega-wattage Rockford Fosgate sound system. Really though, we'd have been cool with just the hundred extra ponies.

<![CDATA[ Saab 9-3 Turbo X Tuned By Hirsch Pumps Out 300 HP ]]> The Saab 9-3 Turbo X is a pretty slick Scandinavian alternative to the Teutonic norm, but with a confident all-wheel-drive system, it's just begging for more power. That's where Saab tuner Hirsch comes in, with their upgrade package for the 2.8-liter turbocharged V6. Utilizing a new intercooler, air intake box and an engine software hack, the package bumps power by 20 HP up to 300 and provides 317 ft-lbs on a fat torque curve. Altogether it means a top speed of 161 MPH with the sprint from 0-62 MPH taking just 5.3 seconds. It's just too bad it doesn't meet the regulations of the Swedish Touring Car Championship. <![CDATA[ D3-Tuned XLR-V Cranks Out 600 HP; Brake Upgrades "Highly Recommended" ]]> Cadillac tuners D3 Research have introduced a new three-step tuning package for the XLR-V that results in a Michelinferno-inducing 600 HP in top trim. Unfortunately, that sort of output isn't available with just a few simple tweaks: A complete engine rebuild is part of the package required to extract peak performance from the 4.4-liter Northstar V8, and owners are urged to opt for the "highly recommended" brake upgrades as well. Customers not wanting to go quite so far can opt for the stage one kit providing a new air-intake system, reflashed ECU, "performance spark plugs" and a high-flow exhaust system, adding up to a still-healthy 525 HP. Of course, if you just want your base XLR to look like a D3-tuned XLR-V, you can buy body trim and emblem kits separately. Poseur. [Motor Authority]

<![CDATA[ MTM Supercharges Audi R8, Takes Power Up To 560 HP ]]> We’re seriously impressed with MTM’s take on the Audi R8 — not just with the performance made possible by the supercharged engine’s 560 HP and 428 lb-ft of torque, but with the way it looks. The tuning company has done a much better job at making the svelte R8 both more aggressive and more elegant than the Audi R8 V12 TDI concept.

Those headline power figures are reached courtesy of a supercharger, and reduce the 0-60 sprint to 3.9 seconds while bumping the top speed up to 196 mph. For reference, those figures are believed to be close to those expected from the upcoming Audi R8 V10. But just look at that white paint and the all-black accents. Audi should offer the standard car in these colors instead of the questionable silver-on-silver. Things stay incredible inside too, with the addition of some very concept car-esque carbon race buckets lined with geometric white pads. If only every tuner car looked this good. [via WCF]

<![CDATA[ Brabus B63 S Package Takes Mercedes C63 AMG To 530 HP ]]> It's Mercedes C63 AMG tuning season around these parts, as we now bring you the Brabus B63 S to complement yesterday's RENNtech version. So what hath the Brabus folks wrought? It's not quite RENNtech output, but by adding free-flow catalytic converters, high-flow air filters and tweaking the ECU with new ignition and injection maps, Brabus bumps the 6.2-liter V8 from 457 HP to 530 HP, sends torque from 442 to 479 lb-ft and gives you enough to propel the newly tuned beast to a top speed of 197 MPH. Should you need more, Brabus also offers a selection of fine limited slip differentials to satisfy the most discerning tuning connoisseur; match one up with a similarly varied selection of multi-piston brake upgrades to achieve your desired level of "whoa." Full release after the jump.

BRABUS B63 S
550 hp / 404 kW and a Top Speed of up to 330 km/h for all Mercedes 63 AMG Models

Even more power for all Mercedes 63 AMG models: BRABUS presents its B63 S engine tuning, which boosts power output of the high-revving 6.2-liter V8 to 550 hp / 404 kW and peak torque to 650 Nm. With a sprint time from rest to 100 km/h of just 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 330 km/h a CLS 63 AMG with B63 S tuning turns in performance worthy of a true super sports car.

The BRABUS power kit comprises newly programmed engine electronics with special mapping for injection and ignition. But that's not all: The intake side features a sport air filter for improved supply of combustion air. The exhaust side features high-performance metal catalysts with low back pressure that also ensure that the tuned V8 engine meets stringent EURO IV emission limits.

In order to transfer the increased power to the road with minimum slip BRABUS recommends the BRABUS locking differential for all Mercedes 63 models with rear wheel drive. The diff lock has a locking rate of up to 40 percent.

The BRABUS B63 S performance kit is available for all Mercedes 63 AMG models. With 550 hp / 404 kW the ML 63 accelerates in 4.9 seconds from 0 -100 km/h and reaches a top speed of 275 km/h in combination with the BRABUS V/max unit.

This extraordinary performance represents a good argument for modifications to tires, suspension and brakes. Depending on the Mercedes 63 AMG model in question BRABUS offers custom-tailored tire/wheel combinations up to size 11Jx23 with tires up to 315/25 R 23 in size. To further improve the already excellent handling characteristics BRABUS has developed a control module for the ABC suspensions that lowers the ride height by some 20 millimeters. BRABUS sport stabilizers reduce body roll and optimize turn-in.

The BRABUS high-performance brake system offers stopping power and endurance normally only found in purebred sports cars. It is available for all Mercedes 63 AMG models, upon customer request even in a special version with ceramic discs. The front axle features 380 x 36 millimeter discs and 12-piston aluminum fixed calipers. The rear axle is fitted with six-piston fixed calipers and 355 x 28 mm brake discs.

The list of BRABUS exclusive interior accessories ranges from genuine carbon-fiber trim and scuff plates with illuminated BRABUS logo to ergonomically shaped sport steering wheels and a speedometer with 360-km/h dial.

Upon customer request the company-own upholstery shop crafts especially exclusive BRABUS interiors from a combination of especially soft yet highly durable BRABUS Mastik leather and Alcantara.

<![CDATA[ Kicherer 2008 Mercedes SL 63 AMG Fails To Eroticize ]]> When we receive emails with “eroticize” in the subject, we typically expect, at the very least, a computer virus, or at the most, pictures of smokin’ hot babes. Sadly, Kicherer — purveyors of the original SL to SLR nose conversions — didn’t see fit to include either. Instead, they sent us pictures of this 2008 Mercedes SL63 AMG equipped with various carbon bits and 560 HP (40 up from the standard model). The only thing that seems worthwhile is the carbon diffuser that smooths out airflow underneath the car at its 199 MPH top speed. Instead of being disappointed, we’re just going to imagine what they might have hidden in the blacked-out interior. Does the SL glovebox have room for paddles, a whip and a ball gag?

<![CDATA[ 2009 Garage Defend Nissan GT-R: Let The Modding Wars Begin ]]> You knew it was bound to happen. We've already seen the first examples of modifications on the 2009 Nissan GT-R. But now comes something even more — perverse. That's right friends, here come the body kits. Tuning shop Garage Defend has brought their twin goals of increased down force and debatably increased style to Nissan's new Godzilla. Their modifications include front end canards, a new spoiler at the back, an inch and a half drop, new seats and a new muffler system. We're expecting this will be among the tamest of modified GT-Rs until such time as they start hitting our nation's West Coast. Then, whoa nelly, you better grab the women and children and run for shelter from the tuning madness.

<![CDATA[ HKS Mitusbishi Lancer Evo X Gets HP Boost And Suspension Upgrades ]]> The new Mitsubishi Evolution X is already a great performer, but what happens when you give it to a tuning company like HKS? No surprise, they've made it better. The HKS Evo makes 382 HP, about 97 HP more than the standard Evo. Even better, that figure comes at 6230 RPM, about 790 revs lower than the power peak from the factory. The grunt comes from an HKS engine pack that includes a new intake manifold, a tweaked engine control unit, and an uprated turbocharger.

But what an Evo is really about is the handling, so HKS also provides a chassis upgrade kit with new suspension parts. You can complement the low stance with 265/30R19 Advan tires mounted on 19" Advan Racing RZ alloy wheels. To give it the full treatment, the styling package has an aerodynamics-enhancing body kit, as well as carbon fiber mirror caps, hood scoop, side protectors and front apron. So all well and good, but let's be honest—if you could get your hands on a mint Evo VI TME, which would you really want?

<![CDATA[ Mine's GT-R Runs 59.4sec Lap of Tsukuba, Coming To US? ]]> No, I'm not saying that I personally have a Nissan GT-R. I'm talking about Mine's, the Japanese Tuner of Gran Turismo and Best Motoring fame. Recently, they brought their R35 GT-R with all the Mine's go-fast goodies to the Tsukuba Circuit to do some testing, and they left with a best lap of 59.367 seconds. To put this in perspective, a normal R35 GT-R will run a lap of about 1:02, and a new Mitsubishi Evo X or Subaru STi will do it in about 1:06. To run a sub-one-minute lap is a benchmark for turbo-crazed JDM tuners. Of course, with a notable lap time, there are always factors (weather, driver) that have little to do with the actual car. Either way, the Their's Your's Mine's GT-R is indeed an impressive piece of kit. They've upgraded the suspension, exhaust, brakes, intake, rear spoiler, and the computer chip. Still in development are parts to further aid the aerodynamics of the mirrors, hood, front canards, front spoiler and side outlets. And what's even better— we hear they're bringing it to the US.

All we've heard is that Mine's is bringing their white test car here next month. We're not exactly sure why this mega-Godzilla is coming to our shores, but we thought we'd give you a warning now, just in case things go terribly wrong and the monster destroys a city or eats a helicopter or something.
