Since this has degenerated into a "best way to spend and/or squander 400 grand on cars, coke, and hookers," 57 or 58 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham with a C4 front and rear subframes and a Volga with a turbocharged Ecotec 4 a-la Solstice GXP for daily driving. The rest can go towards the LeMons fund. 'Nuff said. #toyotaft86
It's the law of diminishing returns in that the more one spends on a car that is slightly faster than a $110,000 Corvette, the more douche he becomes relative to the slight increase in performance. #toyotaft86
I'll take a 1973 SD455 Trans Am, a 1957 GMC 1/2 ton pickup, a 1958 Corvette, a 1974 Jeep Cherokee, a 1963 split window Corvette, a 1961 Lincoln Continental, a 1969 Corvette, a 1967 Firebird, a 1966 GTO convertible, a 1953 Indian Chief, a 2010 Harley-Davidson Softail Deluxe, a 2010 Victory Kingpin, a 2000 Excelsior-Henderson Super X, a 2010 Indian Chief, and a 2011 Mustang as a daily driver.
I'm pretty sure that I can get all that for $400k. Plus enough cases of Sam Adams to keep me and my buddies stocked for a while. #toyotaft86
@pauljones: That's about right. My dream garage would look slightly different, but, yeah, for 400k, I'm pretty sure I could give myself an automotive overdose in quite short order. And this really wouldn't have anything to do with it. #toyotaft86
@ThreeLitre: I'll take one of these with an 800 HP Cummins under the hood, full roll cage inside, LSA independent suspension with adjustable coilovers, ceramic brakes, fuel cell, jet black with on black steelies wrapped in redline wheels. That is all. #toyotaft86
The real story here is that the Tokyo auto show really sucks this year. The LFA has been around as long as the second coming of the Camaro. And the FT86 is a flavor-of-the-month sporty coupe for secretaries who are tired of their Mitsubishi Eclipses. Yawn.
Come on and say it: The major auto shows suck suck this year because hybrid and battery cars are dull. #toyotaft86
What autoshow has been good in the last couple of years?
Hate to say it websites like Jalop and the auto industry's constant need for buzz has taken the fun out of autoshows. We know everything about every car that's going to be introduced. When's the last time you were surprised by something new at a show? -- Sh*t they used to be like f*cking Christmas. #toyotaft86
@NiceNurseRatched: Touche. The FT86 is mildly newsworthy however. At least we haven't been seeing it SINCE 2000!!! It also has a dedicted RWD platform, which takes it up a notch over Scion TCs, GTIs, and Eclipses. #toyotaft86
Trust me, I know what you mean. Seeing the cars and the specs almost instantaneously cool and all, but really, you kind of lose something when you resort to instant gratification. I miss the good old days of patiently waiting an entire frickin' year to see a car at the LA autoshow, like when the C5 Corvette came out.
At this point, the only thing guys like us can do is tell everyone to get the hell off of our lawns. After fetching the paper, of course. #toyotaft86
@zacarious: I don't know man, every time Lotus or Caterham have something to say I get excited. Probably more than I should, but I like my cars like I like my women - small, nimble and just flaky enough to keep things from getting dull. #toyotaft86
Oh man, oh man. It's a damn Toyota. Oh man. I'm not ready for chaaaangee. I'll stick with my BMW, because I'm not ready to accept the fact that Toyota can build good machinese. #toyotaft86
@Poom: Oh, come on now... Toyota builds good cars - some bland cars, no doubt, but they run right, and they're hard to kill. I'm with you on sticking with my BMW, though - but don't forget, that puts us both in the "dickhead" category with most of the people here. lol #toyotaft86
@HoonThatFerrari: Don't worry, I know for sure Toyota can build good cars. They can build cars that can treat you right for the money. Alongside their long-lasting formula, they are making fun cars. Thank Buddha. #toyotaft86
@Elhigh: That was a lot of math to arrive at a very obvious fact. Kinda like how I spent 15 minutes calculating one of the given variables on my Managerial Accounting Final last week. #toyotaft86
@Elhigh: Yeah, but what if only one person is driving the 20 FT-86?
By the way, I invented something similar to the man miles per gallon, but I call it MPPG-Mile per People Gallon. See [jalopnik.com] . The MPPG is applied in a the real world and shows the true value of driving an SUV. #toyotaft86
The LFA just doesn't excite me at all, and I guess other than being a solid 500Hp car and the least boring Lexus ever, there's no reason for anyone else to be excited over this car because it's overpriced for what it is, and there are so many other cars that can match or beat it in style, power, price, and overall performance.
The FT-86 on the other hand does excite me- and I'm not exactly a Toyota person. This car and others like it should be in every car manufacturer's portfolio- a relatively cheap (maybe), powerful (hopefully), and rwd coupe. Hopefully it won't become a hybrid and doesn't melt into a beige Toyota mess of an appliance before it comes to market. I wouldn't ever buy one, because I want a Camaro. But, competition like this will keep the manufacturers of other similar cars on their toes- which is always good for performance competition.

@BЯдΖǐL-ЯЄРΘЯΤЄЯ: I'm not wrong about anything. That might be an 80-cylinder engine, but if we're jokingly talking an 80-cylinder engine in an FT-86, it would be a flat engine, since that's what it's got now. #toyotaft86

I guess it doesn't matter in the world of high end sports cars as there's one born every minute. #toyotaft86
