The Land Cruiser / LX570 were brand new LAST YEAR. Before that, the model went from 1998-2007 without major changes. I highly doubt they're making major changes to a brand-new vehicle already.
Are you sure this isn't the new Land Cruiser PRADO
([en.wikipedia.org])? That would make it a preview of the GX, not LX. Two different SUVs with the same name...smooth move, Toyota.
That is as bland and undistinctive as the original was unique and desirable. Big deal. The people buying this probably are still looking for a deal on an ARM and call themselves "dittoheads".
So Toyota is specifically designing for the China market now, at least with this downsize Prado. Soon, Americans will have to suffer through a lot more weird-looking high-chairs from supergreatnumberone.
Just as you had your "crucify me" moment in the Bugatti thread, here's my "crucify me" moment: I liked the Jeep Commander. I know. It's totally anti-Jalop. I acknowledge it.
@pauljones: I like it but it is too big. I think they need to build a version that looks just like it but is about 25% smaller. Maybe with a slow turning but torquey straight six engine.
FP: Your Volvo is awesome! Anyway promoted this comment

@pauljones: Mention your desire for a Grand Wagoneer around someone who owned one when it was new and you'll either get an attaboy or a horror story - like the one I heard last week about the Wagoneer that stalled and failed to start so many times that when it finally quit on top of some train tracks, the owner abandoned it and hoped a train would come. When she returned, much to her dismay someone had pushed it into a parking lot and it lived to stall another day. This when it was only about 4 years old. I'm pretty sure I could fix it, so I still want one, but watch out for rose colored glasses with the ol' Wagoneers.
@TTopJohn: Oh, I know. I myself owned a 1974 Jeep Cherokee (the slightly downscale Wagoneer), and it had it's share of problems. BUut even so, I loved it, and would love to have another SJ Jeep.
Toyota has done an excellent job of updating this icon. Sure, it has gotten a little larger, but it's capabilities have remained excellent. It's always been on my top-ten truck list, and will likely remain for quite a while.
This is the most exciting vehicle carrying the Toyota badge right now.

The Ford Tin Goose
Toyota Land Cruiser
Band-Aids
Water
The above is a tiny portion of the list of Things That Got the Job Done. Notice much of the list is no longer available without unwanted frippery.

Alas, it's a far cry from what it used to be.

Seriously, but for the interior appointments and drivetrain, you wouldn't be able to tell anymore.

Is there some kind of competition going between Honda and Toyota to see who can design an uglier looking vehicle?

A luxurious, highly capable 4x4 SUV?
How about the original and best?

@leavethegun-takethecannoli: That works, too.

And it all comes around in a full circle and the Toyota apes a Mahindra rather than other way around.
But that's just me. I'm sure it would've been ugly in any case.
