    Is this the joint venture between Toyota and Apple? That would be like the smug equivalent of an atomic bomb.

    I could see the appeal of a smaller, lighter, cheaper, simpler, less-whiz-bang hybrid. I figure, if it's available with lots of stuff prefixed with the word "manual," it could be a hit with, well, me. I can see it now: a basic car that happens to be super-efficient that will actually start in the winter? Where do I sign?

    @cabjf: There's some truth in that. Most people in Japan live in crowded metropolitan areas. Even if you were to own a car there, you would not be able to drive it like you would on a twisty Michigan road.

    @TimTim: They were being modest. Of course it's better to have a broad variety of cars, including those that appeal to enthusiasts. However, if Toyota is not "getting" the car business, I don't know who else is.

    @lilwillie heart clicks GM:
    This is inversely proportional. A smaller hybrid, leads to an increase in overall smugness.

    Here’s the official equation:
    Smugness= ((750 lbs/MC) + (5 ft/LC))*100=percent smugness
    Where MC=Mass of Car in lbs and LC = LC in ft.

    For example if a car weighs 1400 lbs. and is 12 ft long then:
    750 lbs*smug/1400lbs + 5 ft*smug/12 ft= (.54 smug+.42 smug)*100=96% smug

    Whereas:
    If a car if a car weighs 2500 lbs and is 18 ft long then
    750 lbs*smug/2500lbs + 5 ft*smug/18 ft= (.3 smug+.27 smug)*100=57% smug

    *This does not figure in pure battery power for propulsion.
