Those chuckles at the GM 3 speed auto are probably coming from folks who have either never driven an older GM car with a stump-puller V8 or have forgotten you could actually do the trick with just two speeds!
Olds engine? Did someone say Olds engine? A reasonably fresh mild build has acres of gut wrenching torque. Driving that thing has got to be a hoot. My Trans Am would spin the tires over crosswalk paint stripes under minimal throttle. And this is a lot better looking than a ratty old T/A. Very much want.
@Rust-MyEnemy--ymenEyM-tsuR: I used to see the Vector every year at the Long Beach Grand Prix (F1) and every year Gerry Wiegert would paint it a different color so people would think there were several of them. I gave up on his sories after a few years. His HP claims for the new(ish) WX-8 seem to come from the same smoke and mirrors factory.
LOL...that is where I used to see it as well. And I will never forget how odd it was to sit in it, look for the shifter to your right, only to find that it was on the left by the door. I never could get used to that idea.
@Rust-MyEnemy--ymenEyM-tsuR: Jeebus, this is sad--when I was 10 or so I saw and heard one of the turbine cars and at that moment believed I was feeling the future arrive.

Where are we getting the whole torque steer thing from? Certainly, the engine was once applied to FWD car, and likely caused some trouble when turning or abruptly accelerating, but now that the engine is mod-mounted and powering the rear, non-steering wheels, I think we have moved away from torque steer and into the realm of throttle-steer.
@pauljones: Torque steer doesn't have much to do with the fact that in a FWD front engined car the front wheels are used for steering. What is the primary cause of torque steer is the fact that the transaxle is mounted transversely. Therefore the driveshafts are different lengths to the right and left wheel. The torque twists the drive shafts but the shorter one less. This causes that side to go before the other, and that is torque steer. There are tons of secondary causes. By putting the engine and the transaxle in the back, you still get torque steer.
You get throttle steer if you have a transmission, driveshaft, and differential to the rear wheels. The reasons for throttle steer are the same as those as the secondary reasons for torque steer.
@layabout: It's a fwd layout... IN THE BACK hahahahahahaha. No it's pretty cool actually. 3-speed may seem dumb, but with that much torque and HP you could probably just leave it in 3rd and smoke the tires off the line.
In defense of the old three-speeds, the old Vector supercars were fitted with those same three-speeds, and the little bastards would happily do better than 150mph. That's got to be worth something. And, as Tenbeers points out, not even Honda or Toyota can match the TH400 for sheer, bulletproof durability.
@the artist formerly known as dolo54: Poor Lambo copies just don't look quite right, to then make it an auto just adds insult to injury. I'm not doubting the engines capabilities, just the package is either hit or miss, for me it's a miss.
Yuk it up. This laughable 425 ci/3-speed auto combo could push the nearly-5,000 pound Toronado to 60 in 7.5 seconds with a top speed of 135 mph, according to road tests. I would guess this Lamborado weighs considerably less and slices through the air better.
When you have monstrous torque combined with one of the best auto trannies ever, three speeds work fine.

Do you think people who really drive a Countach tell other people that they drive a Countach?
I'm thinking that in some states if you rolled up into a bar and said the word Countach you could start a fight pretty easily.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that knows what a Vector is. I remember that the old Vectors also used those same three-speeds.

It had a computer screen on the dash! And used aerospace-grade steel braid hoses!
And if you disagree with that assessment then you are clearly part of the conspiracy which led to its demise.

Besides, a FWD GM product that isn't a vortex of suck should be celebrated, not cannibalized for some stupid kit-car.

Lambo-esque insanity and lack of regard for safety? Check.
Fast? Check.
Completely impractical? Check.
Kind of good-looking? Check.
Probably unreliable? Check.
Ok, it passes the Lambo-ness test.
