In reply to Chrysler Hires Italian Agency To Make This Crappy Car Ad With Taxpayer Dollars
It's an unconventional approach, but given Chrysler's dismal state, why not try something different? RE: What else can they quickly pull off the shelf?

The question is whether American car buyers give a rip about anything outside their borders. Most probably don't. However, Fiat needs to rebrand Chrysler as a source of internationally flavored cars, and this is a quick and easy way to start changing perceptions.

Matt, as a taxpayer, my primary concern is getting Chrysler back on its feet. If it takes a foreign ad shop to do it, what's the problem? The Americans had their chance and blew it.

#15 - - Leave, and walk a few blocks to the original Pantry Cafe and have lunch at an L.A. institution. Never closed in over 70 years, even during wartime. Cash only. Not for the calorie counter or health food nut with OCD. Besides, a little fresh air will do you good before you go back to the show for Round 2.

I wish I was twenty years younger. It'd be worth wrestling with the onset of puberty in order to actually be excited about some new cars. And I don't mean that I want to be 12 years old in 2009, I wish it was 1989.

Plus, then grunge wouldn't have had to happen.

I have no idea what they're doing here... I can't imagine they'd actually market this pig in any manner even remotely close to the way it looks right now.

IOW, this could be the Best. Mule. Ever.

I guess I'm the only geek here, so it is my duty to point out that number 8 is a red british phone booth, whereas the TARDIS (Time And Relative Distance In Space: I told you I am a geek) is a 1950's vintage blue police call box.

It's one thing to camo the SLR as a Cerbera or the SLS as the Viper, but I didn't think they'd go far as to graft the Dodge Nitro face on a prototype.

@that ain't the way to have fun, son: Right you are. The Sorento, Tucson and utterly revolting 5 GT are still tall fat ugly cars, I bet every one is way of 4000 lbs. "Compact SUV" should mean something the size of the Honda Civic Shuttle or Civic R/T Wagon

@Pessimippopotamus: I just got back... snooze is right! Couldn't get a look inside the Mazda2 or the Ford Fiesta... they were locked.

The Audi didn't disappoint though. Crazy paint... I loved it.

I was impressed by the new GTI. Great seats, killer steering wheel... VW has the best interiors in the biz.

CTS Wagon looks better in person too. I requested a CTS-V version to the delight of some GM guy standing there. Sidenote: they all seemed bummed about Fritz.

The best thing was checking out Fisker's cars. I was so impressed by the lines on the car. But the kicker was Henrik Fisker himself standing right there talking to potential customers. I was obviously the only Jalop there as no one but the booth professional knew who I was talking about when I pointed him out. I'll admit I wanted to shake his hand and wish him luck!

@PowerTryp is holding a Fiesta party.: Maybe I'll save that for last. But consider it done!

@VeeArrrSix: "I was impressed by the new GTI. Great seats, killer steering wheel..."

Forgive me if I don't find your opinions quite impartial.

Just kidding. I'd have to agree. Mk. 6 Golf feels really nice. Got to see it in October. Then there's this one time I sat in an Audi R8 with the optional Nappa leather seats...

CTW is stunning in person, isn't it? Even in black, the details stand out.

It's awesome that you got to see Henrik Fisker. Love that man's work. Perhaps he'll be there again tomorrow. It was the same thing with Reeves Callaway with me. I saw him randomly at a car event one day, then at the auto show not too long after. Didn't get to talk to him though.

Burma must be so scared right now, I mean, I would be too if there was an army of 300s, Sebrings, Calibers and Nitros coming to my house.

This is definitely worse than nukes.

Wait...is the Ford 2.3L the same block as what was in my Fairmont? That's kinda cool if it is. Not a terribly powerful engine, but sure will last awhile.

Also I'm pondering that Tahoe Hybrid drivetrain in something like an old Bel-Air or Nomad...

That Lancia commercial is genius. Feign global responsibility by using a convenient martyr from a politically irrelevant country. Emotional pull, sales, ta-da.

Now if the Dalai Lama or any one of a hundred or so Chinese dissenters was featured in that commercial they'd have a true hot potato on their hands. Not. a. chance.
