You know what else is an affront to God? Mashed turnips! Mashing is the work of Beelzebub! For Satan saw God's blessed turnip, and he envied it! And mashed it to spoil its sacred shape.
I wonder if it's coincidence that the the majority of grammar and spelling problems on this page originate from the fingertips of those defending this or claiming it's much ado about nothing.
Okay, now that we're hopefully done sensationalizing here, maybe we can ease off just a little bit and provide a little empathy.
Losing a job doesn't just affect you, it affects those around you, including your family. Obviously, she has empathized with her father quite a bit, and is aware of certain injustices that we are not.
And on the note of injustices, Whitacre really is a dick. It wouldn't surprise me if there were some dirty corporate politics at play here on his part. It was people who have the same mentality as Whitacre that got GM into the crappy position that it was in, and it will be Whitacre who screws the company and its customers.
I agree with everyone else that that was a childish and foolish display on the part of young Ms. Henderson; but I don't blame her, and I understand why she is so upset. In truth, had I been in her place, being privy to so much of what is going on at the "new" GM behind closed doors, and having a better of idea of what was really happening than a bunch of bloggers such as myself, I would have been equally upset.
I have been an ardent GM fanboy throughout the carpocalypse, and defended them to no end. Now that Whitacre is at the reigns, I have lost all hope, and can no longer muster the will to support GM.
@das_borgen: Really, you just made a statement and invalidated it all in one sentence.I have been one of the worst at making light of this. I did state at one point, however, that if I were her Dad I would be kind of proud knowing that I had a kid who had my back. I stick with that. Sarah's not "nuts" she's a kid who loves her Dad.
Wild commentary notwithstanding, do we have any actual insight as to why he resigned? He was not my favorite choice for CEO of GM, but neither was he a bad choice. He was a bean counter, but that is what GM kind of needs right now to help show some semblance to a recovering sense of financial health.
I really don't like Whitacre in the slightest, and I am sad to hear that he is "temporarily" taking the role as GM CEO.
@pauljones: It's possible that he simply never wanted the job of cleaning up after Wagoner and wanted out as soon as the immediate crisis was over. When I was working with GM this last summer I got the sense he wasn't exactly jumping for joy over the new position, and honestly I can't blame him. We shouldn't rule out that he may have been forced out too.
However, I was very much looking forward to seeing how GM would work out under Fritz. He seemed much more transparent and down-to-earth than his aloof and trying-too-hard-to-be-serious predecessor in his addresses to the public. And, as much as the commentariat (myself included) pledges allegiance to Lutz, Fritz knew his strengths and when to reign him in for the company's good. He made me into a believer by the end of the summer. That's EXACTLY what GM needs right now.
Whitacre, on the other hand, scares me. Alot. I'm hoping and praying "temporarily" really does mean temporarily. If it doesn't, then all that faith I have in GM just might be running out the door behind the latest ex-CEO.

Geesh, as a life long fanboy of GM and owning way to many of them right now.....I can't fault the daughter for going off like that.

I shall be having a Vice City test drive this evening.

Chihuahua rack,
"Mysterious white powder" compartment,

Bottle holders (Cristal size),
Reinforced suspension for carriage of massive celebrity egos.
And many, many more.

I shall have my turnip, as God intended!

I guess ignorance clusters in some folks.

So they won't be filming Jeremy or James anymore?

I'll be over in the Ford bar if anyone needs me.
