It's a movie starring cars. Fast cars. I may not like all of them, and it's easy to bag on the stereotypes and the marketing, but any movie starring cars has my money.

So long as they aren't cartoons. Though, I'll go twice if it's CARtoons, as in the formerly awesome magazine.

Let me just say this: If any harm comes to that Cougar, that isn't rendered in some server-room full of Macs somewhere, than my contempt for this series will reach a new high (low?).

This is great. I'm sure this movie's target audience knows all about all these cars, especially obscure stuff like the RS200. What I really love about the Fast and Furious franchise is that it doesn't dumb anything down-- it emphasizes the scientific aspect of car tuning. It's not the sort of movie for, say, people who slap Flowmasters on a stock 5-liter Mustang and expect it to shave two seconds off their quarter-mile ET, or who think that painting their Civic yellow makes it faster. And it certainly doesn't perpetuate any stereotypes of Car People as aggressive meatheads who objectify skanky women in between trips to Pep Boys. Man, I'm really excited for this movie.

Move over, Grand Prix and Le Mans! There's a new king of car films!

There are no Saleen vehicles under the Saleen photo category. That is a Ford GT and what I believe is a Roush Mustang.

@aceofcakes: Did you actually read the article? That's a PJ Special Edition Saleen Stang, Steve Saleen's personal pre-production GT which was built partially by Saleen. The car in the background is Molly Saleen's personal Saleen Mustang.

I'm not going to see this movie. The first one was OK. It was something a little new and fresh, even thought the story was completely predictable and the acting was barely passable.

The second one was painful. Painful in the "I would rather connect my testicles to a defibrillator kind of way." I refused to see the third one.

UDMan said it already, but the elements of this movie can be found in better (or at least more entertaining) form elsewhere.

I will, however, spend the next 20 minutes perusing the galleries and drooling all over myself.

I've heard from at least three interviews and reviews that the RS200's engine only last eight hours, a wide range for a rally race but a little limited for a road car.

The road cars had a fair bit less power then the full spec rally cars (250v450bhp respectively)

The BDA engine has been around for ages, has been used in road trim before, and has proven fairly reliable.

@Firenza: From wiki (hey, wiki has sources) - For 1987, Ford had planned to introduce an "Evolution" variant of the RS200, featuring a development of the BDT engine (called BDT-E) displacing 2137 cc. Power figures for the engine vary quite a bit from source to source, but output claims range from as "little" as 550 horsepower (410 kW) to as high as 800 horsepower (600 kW); it's been said that the most powerful Evolution models can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour (97 km/h) in just over 2 seconds, depending on gearing. Upgraded brakes and suspension components were part of the package as well. The ban on Group B racing effectively forced the E2 model into stillbirth; however, about one dozen of them were successfully run from early 1987 till late 1992 in Rallycross events all over Europe, and Norwegian Martin Schanche claimed the 1991 FIA European Championship for Rallycross Drivers with a Ford RS200 E2 that produced over 650 bhp (480 kW).

I don't know why people blame the deification of the Skyline on this series of movies since it's roles were much smaller than, say, Eclipses, Supras and Mazdas. Gran Turismo I can get (25 Skylines I guess, on GT2, right?).
