    Google should "street view" the Sultan's palace and his huge garage. Now that would be epic.

    I saw the title of this post and knew I better go get my coffee before I opened it. I was right. I probably won't be able to leave my desk for a while. It would be inappropriate to walk around a professional office pitching a tent.

    Excellent story, Peter. Thanks for the history on this rare and, until today, unknown-to-me Aston Martin.

    Ah, the Sultan of Brunei. The man I most aspire to be in life. He owns Ferrari 456 four-doors and shooting brakes. He has the only Bentley Java outside Bentley's styling studio. There's a rumour that in the leanest years of the 1980's his patronage was the only thing keeping Aston Martin in business. He takes his ludicrous wealth and uses it to keep craftsmen in business making (mostly) beautiful things. Like the carpocalypse bailout, with more beauty and fewer G3s.

    @Jamesface: Personally, I always liked his Mercedes Benz 300 SL gullwings, which grafted the original style SL sheetmetal onto a then modern R129 chassis with a V12.

    So what you're basically saying is that Billionaire's Boulevard is a p-magnet. Because that's what the House of Saud's ill-disguised getaway scheme makes them.

    Oh, and the Aston is replendent in PMB.

    Good job. What a great story.

    I can't help but thinking that the chrome trim on the bottom of the doors could only be enhanced, in a tuner sort of way, by chrome fender flares around the wheel wells.

    I have nothing witty to say. Vantage is one of my favorite cars of all time, especially in the V600 and in the Le Mans trim. Zagato sheetmetal just makes it sweeter.

    @Pessimippopotamus is at 0% productivity:

    I was up in Solvang, CA over the weekend talking to a guy who was from Orange County (where I live as well) and we started chatting about cars... he owns a 1931 Bugatti that he races but he also owns 1 of 99 2003 Aston Martin DB AR1s... (they actually made 100 but sold 99, the last being for a museum I believe). He said he has had it up to 170 and he and his wife drive it all the time... very cool.
