I'm waiting for the commercial that riffs on the old littering commercials. A hillbilly wandering through a deserted demo arena... walking down the street as an endless parade of new cars, stickers still in the windows roll past... Then a hauler loaded with old cars goes past, he turns to the camera, we see a single tear roll down his face. Then he takes a big drink out of his mason jar of hooch, and we get the 1-800 number for the National Demolition Recovery & Support System, or some such. #cashforclunkers
pretty fair, and the Sebring part was hilarious. though that is a pretty big gaffe for them on the NA award. Something tells me he may not admit to the correction though.
What's funny is him mentioning the possibility of shit-tastic Government Motors- wouldn't have expected that from him.
Fiat what a great idea a company thats used making small cars partnering with chysler who makes the largest american land yatchs(challenger, 300c ). I would love to be a fly on the wall of that future design meeting. This is either going to be helpful or provide the basis for a great snl skit.
@gmporschenut: They will design a Chrysler land yacht, that has a little fiat landing craft in it that will take you from your car to the entrance of the McDonalds...
and if stuart couldn't get any play in it, it was his own fault....
I LOVED the fact that the front seats reclined back far enough that the entire interior was damn near flat.... gave more "play room" than my first apartment....
you could hoon that thing forever, and it kept asking for more. more snow drifts were jumped in that car than I care to mention.... not to mention the off roading, it performed better in loose sand than my buddies baja bug strangely enough.
seriously.... LOVED that car. Mostly BECAUSE of its foibles. the car was $500... the stereo was $1200... the memories are priceless.
@fresnel: I had 2 friends with them, one was an old Domino's delivery car and they had rolled it. All the glass survived. They literally flipped it back over and drove away. Another friend had the Levi edition. His seats lay flat too but that was because the latch that held them up broke... ;)
To the best of my knowledge, every country supports its car manufacturers because it's just so damn important.
And to see the slugs that infest congress try to get their sound byte/photo opp shaking their fingers at people and then handing over a trillion bucks with almost no checks and balances to parasites but then giving car makers a hard time--WTF?!
I know this will sound odd, but back in the 70s, say, with "Buy American" as the rule--the principle being you might pay a bit more or at times get a little less quality, but you were still supporting the home team and taking a long-term investment view when you bought a car--you were investing in your country and your fellow workers.
So the increasingly short sighted greed that has brought us to this meltdown probably started then when people just considered price, not origin, not working conditions, not the home team...If the US automakers go, good luck with your next war--oh, that's right, you can pay Haliburton 1000 x a fair price for everything.
And in that vein-this same congress that is interrogating the big 3--uh, spending in Iraq? Millions and millions disappearing? Ten thousand other questions? Nah, they just want to jerk around car markers.
Sorry for the rant. I should be surprised that congress is full of dumbasses?
@NovaloadMissesPolar: I don't think a lot of people realize how important it is to produce something. Basing an economy on buying everything from other countries eventually ends up, well, like this one.

But combining the word "car" with a word that means the end of the world? How unoriginal!
