F1 is the pinnacle of car technology and driving skill, but the actual racing isn't all that entertaining to watch after you get over just how incredible the tech and skill are.
That said, almost any racing gets tedious if you're watching for 3-4 hours straight.
With what seems to be an ever-shrinking correlation between winning on Sunday and selling on Monday, this probably makes good business sense. It isn't going to improve relations with the "Not gonna buy a Guv'mint Motors" crowd, however, as those demographics would seem to overlap a bit.
